Great video as always. Tool kit needs to have at least a extra 20 foot strap to go along with the winch. Carry tires plugs and a small compressor, a can of starter fluid and a lighter to blow tire back onto bead if popped off. Few hand tools. The sizes you’d need for small trail repairs. Breaker bar and socket for lugs. If everyone carries something, you’ll have everything. Zip ties and electrical tape too.

That portal made for a ruff trip. Have seen so many people in similar situations that I believe a long arm lift like a 6" lift or 8" lift & clutch kit for the CVT to accommodate 33's is a better setup for reliability. Portals are great when they work, when they fail it's always something like this video.

ROTAXD That’s not how hardening works. The temperatures required to do that would have destroyed the gears long before they had a chance to “harden and become brittle”.

This is the first I’ve seen this happen to! I’ve seen other problems with portals but not this! P.S. Do a video of what you should take recovery repair etc.

Guy I ride with has locked up 3 gen 2 6in portals. Plenty of fun dragging that out of the woods.

Next time you go muding bring a quart of oil, a Jack and some rtv. So if next time you need to free a portal you can take a gear out of it if it fails. I hope you guys going out again some time with it.
