I'm 68 yr. old and back in the sixties I use to listen to late night radio where Muddy Waters played with his band and other blues greats. I wish they would turn those broadcasts loose because it was some of the most incredible music I ever heard in my life.

9/19/2021 I saw Muddy Waters in Cleveland, Ohio when he opened for the Allman Bros. Band, touring the "Brothers and Sisters Album. On that very day a law went into effect making having up to 3 OZ. of weed a misdemeanor, with a 100 dollar fine, The Concert goers were stoned by the time Muddy took the stage. Now, everyone knows that Cleveland was a big music town, so when Muddy finished his first tune the crowd went wild. Muddy, still holding the microphone, turned to his band and said; "These cats are digging us, lets give them a show." Muddy Waters nearly up staged the Brothers that night, and will be a memory that still lives in the soul of this 74 year old man. Muddy Waters is the only "blues great" I ever got to see live, something I really regret, even so The show was very similar to this video ;-)

closeharlan 😯 Muddy let my younger brother play harp with him in Santa Cruz California maybe early 70s. My bro was 17 at times ( white boy) snuck in back room n asked Muddy to let him play. n Muddy laughed n said " let's hear what ya got" Muddy liked him said he'd play 2 sets, one was " Caledonia other instrumental. Muddy never believed whites can't play blues as you see Portnoy on harp a lead guitarist ( ?! Love Muddy for inspiring my brother. You can hear him ( my brother) on KZbin under " Johnny Long at SF Wharf" playing on streets in San Francisco. RIP Muddy you were greatest bluesman, but even greater human being. One mo gin it was that VOICE!! Nobody could even come close and he knew that bout himself, but he gave BB King a lot of praise being confident in your ability or gifts don't make you arrogant rather he never forgot where he came from po country boy from Rollingfork & Clarksdale Mississippi. He come up hard that's what you hear in him I believe that you don't know what it about lessn' u suffered but he had joy of life in him no self pity there

We were there for about 2 hours and by the end I talked him into hiring me as a roadie. He said if I went to his next show a week from that night he'd "take me on" Alas I didn't make it there for fear of losing my regular job which I had taken off from for the show I met him at.

This is an example of some of the very best blues that has ever been played! Bob Margolin has often caused me some curiosity and lots of interest!...............his ability is without question very very good. Many of his solos are awe-inspiring, and created in an original and unique way. I'm sure that he had a good idea of what it meant to be a part of the Muddy Waters band. He looks rather smug, and I reckon that he was rather chuffed as well. I am still in love with Muddy's slide guitar - "vicious" and "mean".

Bob Margolin always seemed more ego than talent. He's OK, but no Anson Funderburgh or Ronnie Earl. Margolin certainly milked his time with Muddy for the next forty years playing on his own.
