My f150 5.4 has 174,000 miles. I decided to replace the serpentine belt, tensioner, and idler pulleys. Ordered a kit online... Installation was as expected. Several days later, I heard what sounded like belt squeal... After inspection I found one idler pulley was squealing... I removed the pulley, pried off the plastic shields.... No grease! Sooo, I got out my grease needle, and injected moly-grease into the bearing. I replaced the seal. Replaced the pulley. Tested it for a half hour..... Success. I had this grease needle for years, never used it... It's worth it!!!!

ive been packing all rubber boots with a grease needle ,on my pickup truck for years, never had a problem. OH one thing always put a little dab of black silicone on the pin hole so water can never get in the boot...

I just got these needles from Amazon, I have a 2005 Escape and I’m going to use it to Lube my Break Caliper pins without taking them out of their place on the rotors, I’m planning on using the needle on my car door hinges then I’ll see what else

I just picked up one of these needles for my new front axle Moog u joints on my xj. I dont think I ever knew to loosen the fitting on my grease gun. Learning something new all the time when it comes to working on my shitbox.

Old cars from the thirties, and maybe a bit later, had the universal joints on the driveshaft covered with a laced-up leather boot. To grease those, the mechanic had a lance on the gun similar to the needle shown in this video, but somewhat larger in diameter and longer. The lance punched in though the leather boot and grease could be squirted around inside as required. The hole left by the lance apparently would somewhat seal up due to the characteristics of the leather and the action of the grease and rotationk of the shaft. This was back when you had to change oil and grease fittings every couple of thousand miles.

I recently used it to help diagnose a noisy suspension. Injected the grease into the lower ball joint boot and the noise was gone. I used RTV to seal the pin hole. Only time will tell how it will hold up. In the meantime I ordered a new lower ball joint so I am ready to replace it when the time comes.

How is it holding up?
@ChavezDIY4 жыл бұрын
@@claireb8542 I eventually replaced the lower ball joint a few months later and the RTV held up during that time. I also noticed that the RTV was cracking so it's definitely not a long term solution. For a more long term solution to sealing a cracked boot it is best to remove the boot and use a tire patch to patch it from the inside of the boot. Any patches used on the outside will eventually fail. You can still inject grease using the needle attachment without puncturing the boot, just separate the ball joint where its locked in, then pull the bottom of the boot down and you can insert the needle between the lower opening of the boot and the shaft/stud of the ball joint.

I use it on many sealed bearings, just get it under the lip and apply just a small amount of grease in three places. I have an older (1997) zero turn that I mow about three acres a week. About every three years I grease the six idle bearings and the electric clutch and have not had to replace anything so far.
@johncollins83043 жыл бұрын
Do any of those sealed bearings have metal covers? DonyBoy advises against trying to get them off so I was going to drill a hole small enough to take a syringe but if this needle would slip under the cover that would be better. Thank you!

I have 2 Lincoln battery grease guns and never used a manual grease gun again. You just hold the end of the hose on the fitting and squeeze the trigger till you see the grease do its job. Also, I use Chevron #2 grease for my excavator and #1 for everything else.

After greasing with the needle I would use liquid electrical tape to reseal the hole. Next time use the needle again and just push through the hole you had before, then reseal it again with the liquid electrical tape. I noticed you ae using the old style grease gun you should try the Lube Shuttle grease gun that is made in Germany. They are rather expensive but IMHO it's worth the extra money.
@jonnnn48953 жыл бұрын
Does this work ?
@bobjohnson82063 жыл бұрын
@@jonnnn4895 Yes it does just try it. On seal bearings you can just remove the cover and really get the grease in there. There is a grease gun on the market called Lube Shuttle that has no lever on the end and you can change different type of grease by just removing the tube from the gun.

Tape does not stick or remain to surface even if cleaning surface. I use a small dab of silicone over the hole. Easily can be penetrated later. At same hole.

Hi dear For disc brake wheel bearing use only Castroll High temperature grease type (LMX) For tie rode end n ball joints n bushes use agood quality chases grease like AC Delco or Castroll folow service manual instructions When putting new grease always clean the old grease.. never mix new grease with an old one otherwise you are packing an otum bomb in there

I bought one from Autozone, performance tool brand. On the first pump, it separated both parts immediately. Just not attached properly. Went to O’Riley’s and got the same thing and it hasn’t come apart yet. The pressure of it going through the tiny needle makes it leak out between the fitting and the hose.

Hi can you tell me which grease gun you have. do you have a link to the gun with the screw adapter. Please Can it fit with any grease gun
@rottmanthan5 жыл бұрын
have used mine for sealed bearings, i have filled tie rod boots, but i think once you do that it may be worth making a point to do it every so often because some will come back out, but i would think if you have even a slight bit of play some may work its way in there if the boot holds the pressure long enough.
@DonnieDarko14 жыл бұрын
While as suggested that one should avoid puncturing the rubber boot but if you need to puncture the boot at all, just add a touch of permatex rubber sealer to close up the hole.

Could be multiple reasons. There might be an air pocket inside the grease gun that needs to be purged from the small valve at the top. Maybe the syringe is blocked or not enough psi or force to really get into small crevice

@@DonnieDarko1 same problem here, the grease just flows from under the needle fitting but not through the syringe itself
