It starts with the snare beat from "Move Over" by Big Brother and the Holding Company w/Janis Joplin, which is I bet how it got its name. They were a definitely a proto-grunge outfit with some of their songs. The guitar solo for the live version of "Down on Me" was pure, screeching 1990s-style noise, brought to earth in 1967.

Mudhoney, to me, is one of those rare bands who seem to get better with age and time passing. That's not to say that their early & older stuff is bad, because it's fantastic as well, but I feel like they've aged extremely gracefully and have put out some of their best work in the last 10 years or so. Great stuff.

Wow, one of the originators of the Seattle area music sound is STILL making albums!? Nice! Mudhoney were always so underrated. I never understood why they never got their time to shine? Maybe had they just a little more pop sensibility like Nirvana had or just go all out commercial like Pearl Jam they could have made it huge. Alice in Chains are a true mystery as to how they got so huge due to them being so heavy but then again Jerry Cantrell and Layne Staley had amazing harmonies together. Soundgarden had the awe inspiring vocalist Chris Cornell and the guitar work was so original and great. I guess Mudhoney just were overshadowed by some pretty timeless bands is all! Though I personally don't consider PJ "timeless" they had some good songs.

They shined and they still do, the people that know, well, they know. I don't think Mudhoney's goal was ever to be a commercially viable band for the mass audience. There's something to be said for not compromising yourself to try and be more than you are, and I think their longevity speaks for that.

@@squirrelTV_1SW Well by "shine" I guess I meant by selling at least 1 million albums or so (not total album sales career wise but one album going platinum or even Gold if they've never hit that before?). I really love Kurt Cobain and Nirvana but Kurt took a lot his on stage presence from Mark Arm (even his "look" to an extent!) and definitely some guitar riffs/melodies (not sure of any in particular off the top of my head but I've seen a lot of Mudhoney fans point that out. I'm pretty sure it was a song off of "Bleach" that was being accused of pretty much ripping off some Mudhoney riffs and whatnot. I do think that AiC having Mark Arm singing on "Right Turn" with Layne, Jerry and Cornell was super awesome! I wish Kurt Cobain would have also been on it. I love his voice.

@@seanmckelvey6618 Well like I mentioned to Richard Powell by "shine" I meant by selling gold to platinum amount of albums (as in one of their albums selling at least 500,000 (Gold status) and/or 1 million sales (platinum). But like you said that really wasn't their goals or ambitions and I certainly applaud that! It's why they've been so consistent for so long!

MUD HONEY is my all time favorite band out of the grunge movement an just masters of fuzz!!! I never really took that much interest in Nirvana an curts one hit wonder!!! Actually to be honest i bought hole was a better band for real... Foo fighters nah pass!!! But really the actual NOSIE god out of the Seattle grunge Rock scene was The melvins!!! An also deli creeps buck head was in that band... An mother love bone man just sad they were kick ass!!! Temple of the dog most definitely best album ever!!! Back to mud honey they are the best in your face riff gods of fuzz i always thought mud honey mint Blac tar are H it's a damn B rated movie haha an they ain't even addicts but boozers still so kick ass live glad they are still pushing on!!!
