I love mudlarking and metal dectoring videos...but this one stood out as unusual. No talking just natural sounds and music. Great stuff.

Originally known as the Company of Royal Adventurers Trading to Africa, by its charter issued in 1660 it was granted a monopoly over English trade with West Africa. With the help of the army and navy, it established forts on the West African coast that served as staging and trading stations and was responsible for seizing any English ships that attempted to operate in violation of the company's monopoly. In the prize court, the King received half of the proceeds and the company half. It was led by the Duke of York, who was the brother of Charles II and later took the throne as James II. Its original purpose was to exploit the gold fields up the Gambia River, which were identified by Prince Rupert during the Interregnum. It was established after Charles II gained the English throne in the Restoration of 1660. However, it was soon engaged in the slave trade, as well as with other commodities. It mainly traded with the Gold Coast, which is now Ghana. In the 1680s the Company was transporting about 5,000 slaves a year across the Atlantic. Many were branded with the letters "DY", for its Governor, the Duke of York, who succeeded his brother on the throne in 1685, becoming King James II. Other slaves were branded with the company's initials, RAC, on their chests. Between 1672 and 1689, the Company transported 90,000 to 100,000 slaves. Its profits made a major contribution to the increase in the financial power of those who controlled the City of London.

The Drunken Bumblebee they were used instead of small change, as there was a shortage of official small change. Taverns, farms and other businesses made their own currency.

Hi Tom! Where is the best place for mudlarking on Thames? I am been around 10 times but not find something special. I am doing just eyes only. I v got standard permit. Cheers!
@Treasuretom6 жыл бұрын
Todor Hadziyski hi, you will find mudlarkers don't reveal where they find things online. I would recommend trying a few places that seem interesting. If they are busy spots that's usually a good sign. Chat to other people on the shore, see what they found and if they have anything interesting then try that area another day.

Amazing is there anyway i can get into mudlarking as a ordinary everyday chap im a great history buff.
@Treasuretom7 жыл бұрын
There's some tips in the info under the video. You do need a license to mudlark but you can still go down onto the shore without one. There are other tidal rivers where you can find stuff other than the Thames if you don't live near London.
@TheYorkshireDigger7 жыл бұрын
Are you allowed to keep everything you find? Is it like metal detecting where you have to declare finds?
@Treasuretom7 жыл бұрын
The Yorkshire Digger , yes, it's the same as metal detecting, anything of interest should be reported to an FLO, but in general you get everything back to keep. Taking stuff to the museum is one of my favourite aspects.
@TheYorkshireDigger7 жыл бұрын
Tom bland cool, thanks for the reply, best thing I have found so far was a 100kg ww2 bomb but they wouldn't let me keep it
@julzmgrforll72786 жыл бұрын
How completely unreasonable that they took your bomb. It's not like they can use it and I'm sure you would have got loads of use out of it.
@bettykuykendall20837 жыл бұрын
Are you allowed to take in a small magnet to pick up the handmade pins? Or other small metal pieces? I know certain areas have rules as to how you retrieve items. I follow Nicola and Chill Bill.
@Treasuretom7 жыл бұрын
As far as I know you can take magnets to the Thames foreshore but I wouldn't think they would be very effective, there's tons of scrap metal that they will pick up instead of pins. Worth a go though!
@bettykuykendall20837 жыл бұрын
Tom bland I was just thinking of a small hand held magnet to pick up the pins or small metal objects. Haha not one of those huge ones that go on a rope. There are small ones on a rod, which would fit in your pocket.
@bettykuykendall20837 жыл бұрын
Tom bland Also, I do trash larking. LOL 65plus years ago my grandfather used to pick up trash in the rural area and the Air Force base of Roswell, New Mexico. Half of it is still on a quarter acre. I go there almost daily and find similar items that you do, minus the clay pipes and European coins. I find gold & silver rings, U.S. silver dimes and quarters, Indian Head and other pennies, marbles, old bottles, etc. I never know what the day will bring.!! Fired bullet and shotgun shells, tokens, bracelet from the World's Fair and also trash from The Roswell Air Force Base where allegedly the aliens were brought after their ship crashed in 1947. It is a hobby that I am dedicated to doing. Thanks for the video.!
