Hello, I live in Kampen and happened to come across your video on you tube. Nice to see a part of your city in a different way. You were lucky, just a few months earlier the street had been broken up for a new sewer system.Then they also found a whole piece of the old city wall. the Archaeologists have been researching it for a long time.

Hi James, we've just subbed after watching all your videos. We heard of your channel on Tom's video and then one of our subscribers, Pamela Chadwell, also mentioned you. Welcome to the mudlarking KZbin world, you're off to a great start, with confident presentation, excellent content and interesting concepts, from mudlarking in flower beds to tiling the toilet with pottery finds... absolutely brilliant. Our first videos were pretty dire, so with such an excellent debut, we're sure you will go far and fast, and we'll do all we can to spread the word. But I must say that we'll be warning people that watching you can lead to problems, as now, thanks to this marvelous video, it's no longer just rivers and streams that we can't pass by, but we're even looking for finds when walking on the street. Lol... All the best for what we're sure will be a successful KZbin experience 😎🙂🐼 Phil, Caroline & 'Manky Panda'

Gail and Alex advised me to watch your video's. I never knew that it was possible to mudlark in the Netherlands. And watching this video of Kampen makes me want to jump in my car and drive to that city. I live nearby in the city of Zwolle. I wish there were Victorian bottle dumps here in the Netherlands. I really envy the Nortern Mudlarks for digging there and finding great stuff. But you've got a new subscriber. Now I'm going to watch all your other video's and get more inspired to mudlark here in the Netherlands.
@findcreate61744 жыл бұрын
Hi Ilona, I'm in Epe so not far from you! You can come with me to the dump site if you want and I'll show you where it is (it's an hour from you). Thanks for your kind comments (I see more to answer) and I didn't realise Gail and Alex were recommending me. I must thank them. I'll read your other comments now.

What a wonderful collection! Pipes, Delft, Bartmann….like being on the Thames without the mud 😀 x
@findcreate61744 жыл бұрын
Thanks Amanda. The river IJssel at the other side of the city, which I should have shown, is the equivalent of the Thames and used to be tidal, the same. When the Dutch built the Afsluitdijk (started in 1933) it controlled the flow and stopped the tidal effect. Imagine that happening to the Thames after a million years!!

The Netherlands is full of this stuff. My mothers childhood back garden was full of it too. They had a farm. Many clay pipes from the 1600 and even Roman bits and bops and of course delftware tiles and pieces of other pottery and even a mammoth tooth.

Yes Pamela there ware a lot that day, I've been before and only found one, it was a lucky filming day. It's amazing that people broke things by accident one day and threw the pieces on the banking and they stayed there for 300+ years until I came along.

Kampen is a very nice ancient place to lark, but next time you should try Urk and Elburg, too. Due to the netherlands efforts to build 'new land', you should look at old maps, to find out where they haven't already turned the groung upside down.

The black horse looked to be a Friesian, one of the Netherlands native breeds. They are very photogenic! The small tooth is a horse's incisor tooth. Probably a juvenile tooth. The Kampen, indeed, is very rich in artifacts.

The prohibition on digging seems a bit hypocritical when one sees the carnage perpetrated by the municipal infrastructure folks. :o You ought to at least be allowed to scrape in the areas where they've dug significant holes & refilled them higgeldy-piggeldly. :/
