Gorilla tape is awesome! I had an axle brake on my Pioneer 500 out on the trail during a three day stay riding Hatfield-McCoy and had to remove it to make it back to the campground. I didn't want to ride back with an open hole into the diff so I plugged the hole with a Gatorade cap then taped the crap out of it with gorilla tape. I wasn't able to get a new axle to after when I had to leave for home so I rode two and a half more days at Hatfield-McCoy with my diff taped shut. Got home, took off the tape, and not a bit of dirt or mud got into my diff! I never ride anywhere without a roll of Gorilla in my tool kit...lol.

For added sealing, I'd spray the outside of the case where the screws/nuts are with some flex seal or the like. Gotta remember, that metallic liner & the plastic housing are going to expand/contract at different rates & cause the screws to move during each heat cycle. Better to goop the outside of the case up & keep her dry than turning the drive pump into a wannabe impeller when the case leaks.

Did you guys discover the issue of WHY? Was there sand in the oil/grease? Water? What took the bearings out? Which probably caused the failure. Just a guess on my part. Maybe when you put this back together, run a thin layer of RTV around the seam? (Front cover to the portal)
@SXSBlog5 жыл бұрын
Bearings are ok actually. Possibly a heat treat issue on the gears that made them too brittle?
@EnabledShooter5 жыл бұрын
I know you guys already bought boxes for tools and gear. I thought I would share with you what I did. I bolted a truck box on the front of my trailer. I store tools, riding gear and spare parts in it. It's nice that it's lockable for security.
@SXSBlog5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, we looked at that option but unfortunately we don't have any extra deck space and the ramps mount on the tongue, so it quickly became too much of a hassle to fit anything up there, lol
@EnabledShooter5 жыл бұрын
@@SXSBlog I thought that might've been the case for you guys. I have 27' trailer and only pull 2 SxS's so it worked for me. Super atv portals are lifetime warranty aren't they, don't you just send them back and they give you new ones?
@nathonsmithson30245 жыл бұрын
i dont think the portals are part of there lifetime warranty however they are really good about making things right. with this little abuse i believe they would chalk it up as manufactured failure. from what i hear satvs gen 2 portals hold up really well. i would say highlifter will take care of them. they have definitely not abused them enough for catostrofically failing like this. fyi. you have to change fluids way more often when you submerge. water is way thinner than oil.
