Great video! One other thing to note on interior though. Be sure that the sound deadening (tar) mat is still in tact. If the oem carpet is still in the car then it's safe to assume it is still there in most cases. I ran into a scenario where the car was great with just missing carpet. Water had leaked in and caused the carpet to smell as per the owner. I thought to myself, "Well I can easily throw a new carpet back in it" but luckily I realized the sound mat had been partially removed. I feel like this is an extremely rare circumstance since 99% of people never touch it but it did happened to me. (This was on a EG civic but im pretty positive the EF had it as well)

Another STS driver and I were talking about this. It seems hit or miss if it was installed on the CRX/89Civics originally. I took mine out but may throw it back in

This was informative, thanks! Sounds like its easier to find someone selling their STS Civic/CRX vs finding a stock to build.
@MuffinRacing6 жыл бұрын
Definitely, if you can find a STS Civic/CRX for sale that you know matches the rules, it's definitely worth considering. I was really lucky finding that CRX. The Red Civic that's been on my channel for a while was an STS Civic that I bought, and it was missing several things and the engine was overbored by too much. Even then you may not be safe.

Great video. I never realized the level of scrutiny involved... things like the fender lining, floor mats in place... I junked my eg6 due to rust and am looking to find something 88-91 or 92-95 as a potential platform for an H class candidate. I figure that would be the best thing for me to hone my driving skills for a while, and between some good race tires and maybe a rear sway bar, could probly do it for fairly cheap. Thank you for the informative video and appreciate any input you could give

I've been wondering how the EF/EG would do in HS. Turns out there's a guy who ran a CRX Si in HS through this year that did fairly well. However, turns out there's a rule that says any car older than 30 years can't run in street class. With that said, and considering the EG Si had a 5.5" wide wheel option (EF Civics maxed out at 5", and you have to run same as stock wheel width), I would choose an EG Si for HS I think.

I own a 1991 Honda Civic Si (1.6L) with 507k miles on the original engine and cylinder head.. I am the original owner and would like to return my car back to its glory years. Is there a shop that you could recommend that could rebuild the engine and head? I just purchased a used head that I wanted to install. Car over heated a few years ago and I believe I might have blown the head gasket. Car still starts on the dime and does not over heat but I am losing coolant. I live in Southern CA

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with any shops in CA that could help. Try reaching out to the SoCal autocross club, somebody probably knows a good shop

I just found your Channel nicely narrated content thank you. I have a 90 Civic SI that had a blown engine so I picked up a single cam zc which is supposed to be the same motor would that disqualify me
@MuffinRacing6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Unfortunately, a ZC will be illegal in STS. SCCA rules require that the engine be the correct engine for the car, so D16A6 only for STS. Some regional clubs might let you fly under the radar, but the single cam Non-VTEC appears to have a more aggressive cam profile and makes more torque and horsepower than the D16A6, which would probably get protested pretty quickly. You can try to find a Si with a stock motor, a stock D16A6 to swap in, or run your Si in SMF. Your local region might also have a special "open" class that you might be able to participate in without worrying about it.

What class would a modified crx run in? Lets say it had a b18c1 or k20A swap? Looking to buy one but want it to be a fun weekend car also.
@MuffinRacing6 жыл бұрын
It would probably be in "Street Modified FWD" or "SMF". I'm not as familiar with those rules, but I think it still requires a catalytic converter and a full interior, but you're allowed any width wheel and tire you want. There's also a minimum weight requirement using engine displacement to calculate

The more and more I look into autocross the less interested I become in it. I am about to start building my Eh2/Eg and as it currently sits it’s already in the unlimited class. All these rules are moronic. Also what the deal with not having a proper straight in any autocross course? I don’t care to swerve in and out on a legitimate straight.
@MuffinRacing5 жыл бұрын
The SCCA does have a lot of rules, that's for sure. Autocross is about the competition and bending the rules to your advantage, which is common across all of Motorsport. Most Time Attack rulesets are much simpler, but having a slalom in the straights at autocross is kind of entertaining

Sorry for negativity. I just started to check out your channel and it seems there is some enjoyment to be had in autocross. I don’t think my build is tailored to autocross though. My recently purchased auto stock ED6 hatch would be a better candidate it would seem. Being a 23yr old it’s hard to afford two nearly 30year old cars and having the ideal build be compromised because of class restrictions kinda hurts. Might have to co-partner on a civic with my father or brother and go with a simple dseries vtec motor.
