The reason for the name change is due to the character Balrog who is styled as an African American boxer, In Street fighter 2 balrog was going to be called M Bison (M Bison was a play on the name of the boxer Mike Tyson) with the character we know as vega was originally gonna be called balrog and the character we know as M Bison today being called Vega. The reason for the name swap between the three characters was that when street fighter 2 was being developed Mike Tyson went on trial for rape. Capcom considered this to be bad optics
