In 1989 Ali came to Portland Oregon to officiate over the opening of our Police Activity League Gym. As a Portland Police Officer I was selected to be his personal bodyguard and driver for 3 days. This man was amazing. His style, gravitas and HUMOR is absolutely unsurpassed. The 3 days I spent with him are among my most cherished memories. Thank God I took photos and got signed memorabilia for my young son, now gone. God bless you Muhammad Ali.

You're right but I think there was a little bit of tongue in cheek by both men! Ali was great and Howard was in the right place at the right time and, like a barnacle on a large and beautiful whale, he became popular because of these interviews! He was a very smart and Ali went on to take on a different role as peace keeping ambassador for the unattainable idealism thought, that there will be a time, when "...little Black children will play with little White children and not he judged on the color of their skin!" Imagine!

This is somebody we'll never see the likes of again. Sharp as a tac, powerful and humble, yes humble. He stood up for what he believed in and he made sure we'd all know about it. I give him all the respect he deserves when he didn't go into the armed forces against the Vietnamese people. He said, "I've got no qualms with the Vietnamese, they didn't do anything to me". It now makes so much more sense to me. I'm 63 and although I've only watched a couple of fights with my father, I heard him say how great this man really was. I can appreciate that now. My friend's have all his fights on video and they'd watch them over and over so yeah, I heard Ali's voice alot and he was truly his authentic self. What you see is what you got. There will never be a man on Earth who could do what Ali has done. I miss his voice. I can hardly bear to watch the cruel trick a "loving God" played on him. I know people will say, everything happens for a reason. I'd then ask them, what's the reason for this cruelty. Missing you very much, Mr. Muhammed Ali. Rest now, 😔✨🤧🌹🌹🌹🌹

@Ian Dog I rarely ever reply to comments, but I wonder what it takes for someone to have such ignorant thoughts. Liston was the heavy favourite going into their fight together. Ali whooped him so hard that he made Liston quit. Liston would demolish the heavyweight competition today, as would Foreman and Frazier; who Ali beat also. Paterson, Norton, Lyle etc. Yet you claim 'a time of mediocrity' when in fact Ali was the greatest of all times! Ali was the toughest to ever enter the boxing ring and the most heroic man in the USA at the time!
@Majahpaine5 жыл бұрын
@Ian Dog what makes Muhammad Ali the greatest not only a fighter but his charisma , personality inside the ring and out, beat liston when nobody gave him a chance, plus ali took a stand like a man and a true champion against American against the Vietnam war and was proven right all along. And beat foreman when nobody gave him a chance, that is exactly what made ali the greatest.

@Ian Dog yo you're not a black person how the fuck you know and what you saying I totally disagree on your non black point of view . You obviously misinformed Ali wasn't scared of the war Muhammad Ali took a stand against the war because of the racial injustices inflicted upon black people in America . So pick up a book you know shit! Why should he fight against the Vietnam people when white people in America mis treatment of black people was far more important than fighting in a phoney war . Know history your point of view is twisted.

To watch Muhammad Ali from 1960 to 1967 - before they stole his title because of his refusal to be drafted - was to watch a work of art. It was like watching a human being achieve levels beyond anything anyone had ever seen or thought possible.
