"I hated every minute of training, but i said, 'don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion". It probably isn't how he imagined it. But no one can take away what he did, just how no one can deny the spirit in his eyes present in this video. A hero many times over: for boxing, for equality and for peace. But most of all he is a hero of the human spirit. Fuckin love this guy.
@arealmench4 жыл бұрын
I recently saw an interview with Angel Dundee and he mentioned how much he loved training and he was the first one in the gym. Then again maybe Ali did hate training the last few years f his career.

Well the "live the rest of your life as a champion" turned into how to use his fame and title to help spread the word of Allah and peace. I'm catholic, don't care that he's Muslim. I care that he died, and fought for what he believed in.
@RurouniKenshinShinta8 жыл бұрын
It's amazing how when he's just standing he is non stop shacking and looks really sick but then you see him get in his traditional boxing stance and throw a few swings and it almost seems like he's in a happy place and free of parkinsons.
@mpakwood8 жыл бұрын
That's because Parkinson's disease acts with an on, off switch. The symptoms kick in really strong at times and then disappear momentarily. That's why we see interviews and other clips of Ali during his Parkinson years where he sounds much better and the symptoms are so minimal (look at the Arsenio show interview). Also the meds to control the dopamine level plays a big role. When you see Ali motionless without any expressions, that means the meds are working. At other times when his shakes are strong, that means the meds effect is wearing off. It's a constant battle to artificially adjust and regulate what the body is no longer capable to do automatically. It's a horrible illness.

Kid Dynamite he didn't get parkinsons disease, he had parkinsons syndrome aka pugalistic dementia. It's got very similar symptoms to parkinsons with the slurred speech and tremors. Ali had, joe louis had it, ray robinson had it and many many more.

Yep, he accepted that Allah is God in 1960 when he was only 18. He was with the Nation Of Islam which did teach that Allah is God but other than that they tought the wrong Islam. Ali became a Sunni Muslim in 1975, after the Thrilla In Manila. Malcolm X became a Sunni Muslim 3 months before his death too. Allah waited till he came to the truth before taking his life.

We never saw a prime Ali as he lost his 3.5 best years when he was stripped of his title. Convicted murderers were allowed to work but Ali wasn't. Ali regained his title by beating big George and it took SEVEN years to regain his Championship belt that was taken from him. Ali gave up the greatest sports title in the world and millons of dollars to stand up for what he believed in. At that time, he was just coming into his prime. When Ali came back, his legs were gone and his hands were slower. Every boxing pro knew it and that is why Ali had to come up with the rope a dope. In his prime Ali was unbeatable because no one could catch him. Watch Ali vs Brian London. It was a 3 round fight and Ali threw 12 punches in 3.5 seconds. By the way, 2 hours after this fight was over, everyone with Ali was celebrating while Ali was showing a poor African child magic tricks. That is why he was, is, and always shall be the greatest of all time. I spent an hour with Ali and he had the heart of a child. Many people also do not know that Ali would allow homeless people to sleep in his living room. If you asked to see Ali at his home he would actually let you inside. I have never met a person that exuded such love. He loved every person of every race and was the ultimate gentleman. Does everyone remember how he went to Iraq to meet Sadaam Hussein to request that the hostages be set free? Many people forget that Ali brought them home! Ali grew spiritually to the point that he exuded love and personified love. This is the ultimate accomplishment in life and why God put us on this planet.

Guys like this have got an explicit reason to stay away from violent fights like the ones that Ali and other old boxers demonstrated back in the days. No one wants to be a champ who's living the rest of his life rich but crippled. No fame or respect will ever convince you that it was worth it. I bet Ali realized that but it was too late for him to reverse the neural damage he got. I think it is just too improbable that there were people around him who could persuade him to stop boxing. Too much fame, money, and arrogance clouded his mind until it was too late.

Indeed. He always had a great sense of humor and as we all know, he said some hurtful things about Frazier. But you could really see as he got older and with his statements that he really genuinely was sorry, evident by the fact that he had nothing but good things to say about Joe. Ali himself probably did respect Joe quite a lot, even to the point of saying he had his greatest fight against him. Him even playing around by throwing fists despite his condition really just showed it all about him. He really did appreciate being around people and just making people smile.
