I bumped into Mr. Ali in the lobby of a hotel in San Diego many years ago. I was shocked and a bit star-struck...but I asked him if I could have my picture taken with him. He took a swing at me with his big fist, but stopped just short of my jaw... He broke out into a big smile and put his arm around me. He was a real gentleman, and seemed generous and kind. That was a once-in-a-lifetime experience... How many people can say Muhammad Ali took a swing at them and they stayed standing!

The tremendous respect that these champions had for each other is so impactful. Ali may have talked trash, but he showed respect by giving everything he had to give his opponents the fight of their lives. The punch @5:51 was from the rematch. It was Ali’s third punch and he rocked Liston, whose legs were turned to rubber. It was his hardest punch and contributed to the knockout with punch #4, just 38 seconds later. For the K.O. he hit him with a punch to the right temple that knocked Liston off his feet, the so-called “phantom punch”. In slow-mo you can see Liston has 2/3 of his weight on his left foot and the punch lifted it off the canvas. A shock wave rippled through Liston’s back muscles. No phantom punch, just a perfect punch on top of a hard right.

His peak as a heavyweight was really and truly unmatched. Look how many tough fights he took over the years. 56-3 until his last two fights, which he should've never been clearly for but here's some of the notches on his belt. Liston, Shavers, Foreman, Joe Frazier THREE TIMES, Ken Norton, Patterson & many others. It would be a far longer list if he hadn't lost 3.5 of his 8 to 10 prime years.

And that jackass floyd said he's better than Ali, Imagine him getting into the ring with monsters like foreman frazier liston tyson and even holyfield, If he faced the guys half of their calibre then i would see how he becomes 49-0

He lost the later fights due to Parkinson's not age, today the fight with Holmes in 1980 would've never took place!

*Unlike some boxers who remain undefeated because they cherry-picked their opponents, Ali was truly an old-school boxer. There really was no deceitful calculation to who he decided to fight - whoever called him out or was deemed a worthy opponent **_regardless of age,_** he'd get into the ring and do his thing. And yes in total, he lost 5 fights but he also won 56 by fighting some of the world's most elite boxers. You don't become the GOAT by remaining undefeated, you become the GOAT by constantly challenging yourself against other legends and succeeding time & time again; solidifying legend status. The amount of respect he obtained from not only his boxing, but also his activism & altruism, is immeasurable. RIP Ali*

It’s so much that he was the greatest boxer… it was more about what he did outside of the ring that made him the greatest. He risked it all including his boxing title to stand up for what was right. That’s why he is the greatest.

Ali is probs the most iconic boxer of all time which makes him the best. There have probs been better boxers since, but Ali had that flair, that charisma and the heart to win everyone over. Thats what makes him so great

I saw ESPN had a poll recently asking "Who is THE greatest of all time" and watched a bunch of plebs argue over whether it's Micahel Jordan, Lebron or Tom Brady. Those fools had no idea this isn't even a question... Muhammad Ali literally has that term trademarked. It is unequivocally him!
