What she's describing was common in African traditions, especially among the Kikuyu. It was intended to progress the generation. That's why there is a saying "mbeu ndìimanagwo." Even biblically, Onam was killed by God for denying his brother a generation. This means that God is aware of men like your former husband and Onam's brother. He would support their brothers to assist as opposed to a family disintegration. Read Gen 38:8-》 It happens even today. Both women and men borrow or rent what they can to progress their generation. Women who are unable to carry a pregnancy do surrogacy(borrow a womb). There're women who do Artificial Insemination. All these seems okay because they support the women who are incapable due to some reasons. Do we only draw a line where it's the man who is medically incapable?
