Mui Ne was not what I imagined Vietnam to be like. With rocky beaches and miles of desert sand dunes, you really feel like you stepped into a different world. It was a wonderful weekend away from the busy city of Saigon.
When traveling during Tet holiday, everything is going to be a lot more expensive and things are going to book up fast. We decided to go to Mui Ne because it was a cheap to get to from Saigon. Make sure to book accommodations and bus transportation a week or two in advance! We messed up and booked our bus back to Saigon the same day we wanted to leave. Not only did we have to leave earlier than we wanted, we also had to pay double the price to get the last seats!

I was there in 2008. It was great but some guys stole the gas from my motorbike's tank while we walked to dunes. In retrospect, I am thankful that they just didn't take the whole bike. That would have been an expensive nightmare.

Wow I didn't realise there are sand dunes in Vietnam given its geographical location of being in South East Asia - Vietnam is on my bucket list to visit given that I have already visited 5 countries in SE Asia. I have been to deserts in Jordan, Egypt, UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Qatar as well as Sahara Desert in Morocco and Tunisia
@AlisonLinh

Pretty cool huh? I hope you get a chance to visit soon! Definitely doesn't compared to the deserts in Egypt, but it's an interesting place to visit in Vietnam for sure. :)

@@AlisonLinh Deserts in Egypt is what you expect especially given the geographical location. What makes this Vietnamese desert unique is that SE Asia is known for jungles, tropical beaches, mangroves, stunning rock formations and the weathers are tropical - you don't expect deserts in tropical climates - probably the only sand dunes you will find in SE Asia

Avoid travelling in Vietnam on holidays, Tet - The New Year Festival - in particular. Crowded, unsafe, expensive. Going around Christmas time is best since it is cooler, less crowded, and much cheaper and easier to find a nice place to stay.

I see improvement with every vid. Voiceover narration on some of the B roll footage with less prominent music can add a lot of value to the content. Some history, stories, myth, background info on the places you visit etc. Afterall, you're Viet kieu! So unlock Vietnam for us! ;) And keep up the good work!

Alison, i been to Mui Ne with my girlfriend (Now wife) back in feb 2013. It brings back the memories from your this trip. The white sand dunes was quite spectacular and it was one of the favourite attraction for me when i visited there. The beach waves there were huge and not suitable for swimming except kite surfing which was a popular activity there for foreigners. How many nights do your stay there? 1 or 2 nights would have been enough.

Arabia has come to Vietnam with all the sand dunes. Thailand and Vietnam I saw traffic police. But in Cambodia I never saw any traffic police. I witnessed some of the most dangerous driving there. Drivers misjudge and at times three vehicles would be attempting to pass a slower moving vehicle such as a truck or even a car. Then they would be driving directly in the opposite lane. Even one of the buses we were in was in the opposite lane passing and a couple vehicles ahead were forced on the grass off the lane. In Vietnam I saw one accident between a taxi and a truck in the Mekong Delta area. In Cambodia, not long after we crossed the border from Vietnam on our way to Phnom Penh, we saw a lone motorcycle accident. Motorbike on the ground and the driver sitting on the side of the street with lots of people around him.
@AlisonLinh
@AlisonLinh 6 жыл бұрын
Wayne Samuel Wow! That sounds crazy :( The police in Vietnam are usually not very good with catching people for traffic violations here. However, in Mui Ne they are there to mainly catch tourist and get bribes.
@southbound1969
@southbound1969 6 жыл бұрын
I witnessed the exact thing after entering Cambodia on the Mekong Express bus. The moto driver was sprawled out on the rode lifeless with a bunch of people standing around him doing nothing. And on the sleeper bus from Hanoi to Hue we ran over two kids on a motorbike. I suspect they didn't make it. We had to wait hours for them to send a replacement bus.

car accident every where in the world..
@samthepoet107
@samthepoet107 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnbrookhaven7134 there is a major difference between car accidents and reckless driving that lead to accidents. To start off in Asia the pedestrian has no right of way as in most western countries. Some of the highways are also poorly designed. One example that comes to mind while on a elevated highway in Vietnam I saw traffic entering from an entrance ramp on the right hand side then crossing over in front of us onto the opposite lane. Try to picture driving on an elevated highway in Los Angeles with traffic entering on the right then crossing over to the opposite lanes. Unimaginable but this is the crazy stuff you see in Vietnam which I'm sure led to deaths. You also see scooters that leave the street due to high volume of traffic and traveling on the sidewalk competing with pedestrians. How would you feel walking on the sidewalk with a sea of scooters coming up behind you? kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZPRp5ysirVmapo

Cool video! How was the bus trip? I heard that sometimes they pair you up with strangers to share a bed. What is the normal bribe fee if you get pulled over by a police officer?
@AlisonLinh
@AlisonLinh 6 жыл бұрын
Sang L. Thanks! The bus trip wasn't so bad on the way there, but on the way back was pretty packed and I had to be paired up with a stranger. That's a good question! When we were talking to the moped guy, he said that the police will take whatever is in your wallet. So if they see a lot of money, they will ask for a lot of money. That's why I said "Don't carry too much money in your wallet". However, I've never had to bribe someone myself before, so I do not know what the normal bribe would be. 😬 I'll let you know if I ever find out exactly!
@SangHTX
@SangHTX 6 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry that you were paired with a stranger. Did they pair you up with a female passenger? Do they normally pair the same gender?
@AlisonLinh
@AlisonLinh 6 жыл бұрын
Sang L. For me it was with a male passenger, but I didn't mind since it wasn't that long of a ride and I just slept haha. I usually book online and pick my own seat next to my boyfriend. If you don't book early or if you don't get there early enough to pick your seat, then they will put you anywhere. But it also depends on the bus company!

Anh Vuong Thank for your the support! :) I was thinking of doing a video like that, but I wasn't sure if people would be that interested. I am actually half Vietnamese so I wanted to explore my heritage and meet some of my relatives here. I was thinking of moving back to Bangkok, but the demand for English teachers is not that high and it's more expensive to live there. I ended up teaching online so that part didn't really matter, but I love that I moved to Vietnam and got to experience it.
