I also love this song very much & also love the music of 90s era; but not considering the 70s music would be an insult to the innumerable gems of the era. IMO 60s, 70s & 90s. In between, during 80s, there was a sharp drop in quality. Aashiqui in 1990 brought back the melody in Hindi film music.
