For the 5 year old cleaning her room: Yes, in my opinion you were being the asshole. Even though I can see your point of view as in that you think your daughter should just be doing that and not told to. She’s a child. This obviously meant a lot to her and she was reaching for your attention and wanted something that you could be proud of. You shutting it down like like must have been embarrassing and hurtful to her feelings because she spent time and effort on it without being told to do so.
