How To Uninstall Java On MAC M2| M1| Or Any Other Version

You might need to remove or uninstall java due to any reason then follow below commands
Uninstall java
rm will remove the specified file or directory.
options
-r If it's a directory, it will remove all its contents recursively, including subdirectories/files and their contents.
-f Do this forcefully without asking for confirmation for each files and folders.
sudo rm -rf /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk[version].jdk
Example:
sudo rm -rf /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk-11.jdk
Additional Files/Folders
sudo rm -rf /Library/PreferencePanes/JavaControlPanel.prefPane
sudo rm -rf /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin
sudo rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Oracle/Java

Hi Mukesh! Thank so much it is a handy video. Have a question: case: I have on my machine amazone-coretto-21 and amazone coretto-11, when I remove coretto-11, do I still need to remove Oracle? or something specific inside this Oracle folder? since I will still carry coretto-21 and probably it will use that Oracle folder?

Hi Dasha, When you remove Amazon Corretto 11, you don't need to specifically remove Oracle JDK or anything inside an "Oracle folder" unless you have Oracle JDK installed separately and don't plan to use it anymore. Amazon Corretto is a distribution of OpenJDK, so it doesn’t rely on any Oracle JDK-specific folders. If you’re using Corretto 21, it will have its own installation directory and won’t depend on any folders from Oracle JDK. What You Should Do: Remove Corretto 11: You can simply uninstall Amazon Corretto 11, either by removing its folder or using your OS’s package manager if it was installed that way. Keep Corretto 21 Active: Make sure that your environment variables (like JAVA_HOME) point to the Corretto 21 installation after removing Corretto 11. Oracle JDK: If you have an Oracle JDK installation on your system and you don't plan to use it, you can remove it. However, it is separate from Corretto, so it won’t interfere with Corretto 21.

I have a question, can't we just delete these files by usual method instead of terminal?

Yes you can do that but many times in UI you wont see hidden files so I delete from terminal too.

I followed the steps given on java website firstly. I did it then came across your video you guided the same but i think before jdk i unistalled the java using that 3 commands. When i search in terminal, there's this same jdk-11 and all showing up. Means its not unistalled properly please help

Hey! So I am using the exact same machine as you, I ran the sudo rm -rf /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk-22.jdk, no errors were thrown, but how do I make sure it worked?
