About her dad. It would be sad if her dad would pay attention to the gifts from the emperor first, when his daughter came back alive. First of all he was glad she was okay, no matter if she brings honour to the family or not. He wanted her to know that Dad didn't ignore her achievements, he was rethinking how he was treating her, and his values. He realized he cares about her well being more, than about honour. He only knew that she was risking her life, no matter how not honorable she was seen in his eyes. He just changes through the movie too, I think.

I think the ending scene with the father is when he realizes that Mulan is a wonderful woman (she really is), regardless of her achievements, and she could've died before they reconciled, not giving him the chance to say how much she means to him. Maybe because he was a warrior, and he has been trained to remain stoic. So, it's kind of nice that he breaks down and shows his vulnerability in that scene. But yeah, I agree with you that he should have acknowledged her achievements too.

@@yorutsumetai exactly lol. its just a minor gripe for me and everyone can have their own opinions, but imo bro really dropped the ball on that one. I do admit that it would've been nice to see the father acknowledge her achievements and say he was wrong since she brought him honor of the highest prestige or smthn. but that wasn't what the scene was about. for all the father knew he shamed her and treated her badly her whole life due to a stupid honor system, and in return she throws her life away in a war for him. Especially considering how she was a woman and the attitudes at the time, he probably thought she was basically dead and never got to know how much he loved her since the last thing she hears from her family is how she brings shame to them. It's a great scene that shows how he finally learnt from his mistakes when it was seemingly too late. When he says that she was the greatest gift he ever received, it shows that he has completely dropped his outdated views of honour and has learnt to express the fact that she's more to him than the things she does. The point wasn't that her achievements were ignored because they will never be enough, its that she herself will always be enough and she shouldn't need to save the whole of china to get the love she deserved.

During the reign of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, the famous generals Wei Qing and Huo Qubing launched three large-scale attacks against the Huns, also known as Xiongnu who disturbed the northern border of the Han Dynasty frequently, and finally expelled them far northwest of the Great Wall. In the movie mulan, the villain character shan yu is inspired and references the hunnic Emperor the Modu Chanyu, who was the reason of the building of the great wall of china. The the reason why the great wall of china was build was because of getting protected from the huns.
