Really love this one, Cantonese is a relative of the dialects used during this period of Chinese history and the translation sounds ancient, a winning match!

No, I don’t think so. it is more likely that mulan speaks mandarin

no at that time mandarin not yet exist and according to the original poem it mostly Cantonese (the story is based on a Chinese story it was written in the old poem, and from the words the poem used, professionals guess it's Cantonese instead of the rest @@yueyumyum7827

Thank you very much! I've never heard Cantonese before (except in multilingual one-line videos and such). So a whole song is great to hear! :)

Kadaj2 just for you to know singing in Cantonese is very different then actually speaking to others

It's cool that it actually rhymes, unlike the Mandarin version.

Which Mandarin version? Also, if you're talking end rhymes, that's not how traditional Chinese rhyming works.

The lyrics in this version really just represent the amount of pressure that's upheld for the sake of tradition... Having been born in China but never grew up there (I was brought to the states and adopted at 9 months), I feel grateful that I never had to endure such a thing. As a side note however, this language when it's sung is just beautiful!

@liukewithoutacoolname6 жыл бұрын

Wow, the translation really changes Mulan's part! In English, she begs the ancestors to hear her and help her to bring honour to her parents. In Cantonese, she laments that to pretend to be so womanly is itself a shame to her family...interesting switch!
@sagitiger4 ай бұрын
it's just me being picky but what mulan actually meant is not bringing shame to her family, she meant was her acting like a lady is too silly in itself and makes her parents feel bad towards her (for forcing her into this role)
