I live in Western Oregon where we have the black tails, "grey ghost", they are VERY SMART and very hard to kill, EXCEPT at night, AND during the rut. An hour east of my house the mule deer rome. They are bigger, bigger racks, BETTER MEAT. They (typically) are NOT NEARLY as "Willey" as the black tail. - for that, a little more boring.

I live in the Sierra Nevadas, and a few years ago I got to watch a bunch of young bucks sparring behind my house. Mostly just practicing locking antlers but once in a while one would try charging another. One of them had only four small prongs and he tried charging a full grown buck that was with them (he learned to stop doing that pretty quick). Even my dog watched them with me.

I saw mule deer for the first time a few weeks ago when I visited New Mexico! It’s true their ears are quite big, they look kinda dorky lol. Also, I was shocked at how chill they are around people! White-tailed deer tend to be a bit skittish from what I’ve seen, but mule deer were just chilling by buildings as people were walking by pretty close to them. I obviously kept a respectable distance and didn’t try to get close, but it was fascinating to see how chill they were compared to white-tailed deer.

We have a herd of whitetail deer that like to bed down at the edge of the woods that's at the back of my mom's yard. As long as we're not staring at them or using power tools, they're chill. They get more nervous about my cat (on leash) than about me. 😂 They sometimes leave their fawns up against the house. I've heard stories of them being super chill if you put out salt licks or corn for them.

I live in (Wichita Falls), Texas and (White tail) Deer are everywhere. Luckily, cougars have migrated back to the Wichita Mountains reservation not to far from where we live, and a friend actually took a picture of a cougar track that spooked his horses.

When I was ten years old, our family was driving through Malade, Idaho just before dawn when a large heard of mule deer came bounding across the interstate. The alpha male stopped dead in his tracks directly in front of our van while we were traveling at nearly 70 MPH. Dad had no time to stop, hit the animal head on. Thing was the size of a horse, nearly flipping the van as we went over him. The buck was killed on impact, and so was the van (the engine was literally dismounted from the chassis and the entire front end was destroyed). The several females who'd been following at full speed behind the buck actually slammed into the side of the van, causing extensive body damage down the length of the vehicle. We were stranded on the side of the road until a trucker was able to radio the highway patrol (this was more than 30 years ago). The patrolman took measurements of the buck's body and rack, later confirming that it was in fact the largest mule deer on record in that county. The accident left my parents in a financial ruin that took years to recover from afterwards, and pretty much sealed my opinion of mule deer and the entire state of Idaho for the rest of my life.

I honestly had no idea Mule deer were even a thing. I don't think this is boring. Deer seem "normal" as far as animals go but i find them pretty interesting. There is some interesting convergent evolution with several species that look similar and they are essential parts of our ecosystems. Their behavior is also pretty interesting.

I saw a group of mule deer on the top of Mesa Verde's largest cave dwelling and was glad that I had binoculars in my bag. Tourists gathered asking what I was looking at then took turns with the binoculars which I practically had to wrestle away from the last man as my ride was leaving. Not boring at all as many people don't know about "Mule Deer" and argued even after seeing their extra long ears.

I've lived in the Foothills of the Denver metropolitan area for 30 years. We see mule deer and elk everyday. They frequently intermingle. I have never seen any kind of altercation or territoriality. The truth is all of the non-predators seem to peacefully coexist.

I saw some whites and Mules with elk last November all bedded down together a couple times. Unless it's rutting season they're all pretty chill to be around as long as you don't try to get close.

When I kill a MATURE MULE BUCK, I can get up to 200 pounds of meat. (These are as. Uh as they get in Oregon) The black tails, closer to 35-40 pounds. Some call me a trophy hunter, I like the meat, and a BIG BUCK has more meat.

I look forward to mamas and babies spending the winter on my property every year. In order to keep them off the highway we make sure to keep a steady supply of alfalfa and hay throughout the fall and winter months. Mule are a staple in the area year round but the babies are definitely the highlight of the season ❤

Someday, someone will document the three Frugiverous Monitor Lizards of The Philippines. There's almost zero content on them. It's the same recycled 5 minutes of footage repackaged. I'm being torally serious. Discovering monitor lizards whos diet is mainly fruit (creating habitat from seed dispersal) is huge. As many prolific herping channels document amazing finds, somehow these get overlooked. Just an idea 💡
