Live at the Kennedy Center- great intro by Mulgrew, then an uptempo version of this standard with great drumming from Rodney Green. Enjoy. Ralph Rainger: Composer Mulgrew Miller: Piano Derrick Hodge: Bass Rodney Green: Drums

I remember the first time I heard him, about 20 years ago, my initial reaction was that I had never heard anyone swing harder. 20 years later that more or less still holds. The force of his playing is simply titanic. (Listening to this makes you feel like you’re in the front seat of a rocket ship hurtling through musical space !) I also love is how his lines weave in and out between bebop and post bop sensibilities, combining dead on in the pocket harmonic constructions with freer more open ended ideas. He was truly phenomenal. I think Mulgrew should have been held in more widely acknowledged esteem, as he is truly one of the very greatest pianists of the post Tyner period. I also can’t help but comment on how half dead some audiences are. This man just blew the roof off with a megaton solo (a listener will go months before hearing anything of this caliber) and all he gets a “nice” round of applause. Jazz will always and only be a music for the few who can truly hear. Joseph P Cannavo Denver CO
