Well done on joining the catch and release brigade. None of us are short of food these days, and those fish (as you said yourself) are so precious.
@foxboy644 жыл бұрын
one of the chums my dad and i used was just chicken feed mixed with whole oats. the bulk of it is the chicken feed of course. all the bits are already the right size, so a bit of water and enough of a mix to get it all wet and you're set. works a treat. for the lure we would just take a cheap white artificial worm and cut them up into small enough bits that they just look like floating specks of the oats. they were more robust that way than a bit of bread stuck on the end of the hook.

I fish for mullet in Jacksonville during the summer. I use chicken feed (layer crumble). Mix it with water and make small ball. Throw it in the water by your cork. Cut a tiny piece of white plastic worm to put on your hook as bait. It only takes me about 3 hours to get my 50 limit. Some people also use fat back rather than plastic worm pieces. Good luck.

Bru, a gorgeous video and made me smile. I caught many mullet with my brother and father in Florida in my youth, we were allowed to use casting nets by law. Some days my dad's mates would catch dozens in an evening and spend happy times prepping them for food for their families. You really were a blessing with this video--well done.

Belting mullet there mate! My local rivermouth is usually full of them during summer when I go spinning for bass, never bothered with them before but will defo use these methods and give them a whirl. One question, what depth were they taken at? I see your trace was about 4ft? Is it weighted at all? Cheers, great content, got to say!
@SMASHFISHING4 жыл бұрын
dukeofmodena mullet can be taken with bread strait off the surface dude it all depends on the ground we have 8 ft of water in that spot so we fish round 4 ft but if you go deeper or shallow don’t really matter as the chum will make them feed hard an soon as they see your bread they will come to it , the main key is to chum the area and make sure the mullet can’t see you or they will spook ,
@dukeonthewater4 жыл бұрын
@@SMASHFISHING Brilliant, thanks for that, the area I go is about that depth when the tide floods. Chum seems to be the way to go, great info.

I’ve never eaten mullet and wonder what it taste like, is it good? Do u fry it or bake it? That bait looks disgusting but I’m glad something wants to eat it. When I was young I used to like fishing but always felt sorry for the fish I caught so begged people to take the hook out and throw the fish back, not a very good fisherman I guess. No matter I still love to eat fish and now I want to try mullet but don’t know if I can find it around SanFrancisco California. I’ve never seen one at the market. It’s a very pretty fish. 🥰

Another Florida comment. Every one of those mullet has a gizzard, like a bird. IMO, a plate of gizzards is worth the time spent catching the mullet. Cast net them. In season, they have roe that the Japanese beg for. There's yellow female roe and white male roe. IMO again, the white roe is best to fry and eat. You can mix the yellow roe into scrambled eggs. I've been eating mullet all my life.
