Mullet Fishing with Soft Plastics

The Melbourne weather has been terrible for fishing lately. Strong winds have forced me away from the bay and seeking cover in our lakes and estuaries. To keep things interesting I have been fishing with my ultra light 1-3 kilo spin rod. The Savage gear LRF spin rod which is the lightest rod I've ever used, perfect for estuary species such as bream and mullet.
n this episode i fish in 40 kilometre winds, and manage to catch 10 mullet. Once again the bream escaped me, but ill be back out again soon, so don't forget to subscribe to the channel folks.

fishingmad haha exactly thank god ive got wednesday off! this warmer weather coming with light winds should bring the bite on in the bay for next weekend. hopefully the wind stays down

Thats great that you have Wednesday off. I'm thinking of taking Wednesday off and spending the day out in the bay just as a catchup. Just craving a nice day out on the bay, where the fish are on.

Another nice session. Good getaway from the strong wind. How early was it? Thinking to fish it before work. What time did they start to bite and stop to bite? Slow roll retrieve?

Hi Sebastian, I'm generally there between 9.00 and 11.00. I find that the Mullet for some reason are very queit on sunrise then a few hours after seem to fire up. I did see a massive school of them there a few weeks back around 9.30 but they wouldn't touch any lures.

Thanks Scott, yeah the worst weather I can recall in ages. Every Fri, Sat, Sun seems to be between 15-40 kilometer winds lately. I've had to cancel so many fishing sessions last minute because the conditions weren't safe. ill keep soldering on but hopefully some good weather is on its way.

Great to see a fisho that knows how a reel works right hand for winding how many marlin are got with left hand winders.Manually activating bail arm saves your reel.Left for LOSERS.Adam

Nice session on the mullet. What weight braid and leader are you using on that setup?

Hi Gary, I generally use 6 pound braid and 4 pound leader. Rarely get busted of with that even with larger bream. Hope that helps.

Nice. What size jighead did you use? Also was this early morning?

1/16 hws, generally I get there mid morning. This was early morning trying to avoid the worst of the wind, but was already 40 + kilometers when I got there. Hope that helps.

Hi Vincent, I always check the weather forecast and ensure where possible that im fishing down breeze. Casting 1/16 into breeze is almost impossible but down breeze on a windy day very effective. Some great tools online to check the wind direction to where your fishing.

Yep have a look at meteye for wind direction and wave height. Willy weather is fine for general tides and wind.
