Imagine a dragweek trailer with a complete rear end and suspension that could be swapped into the racecar if something breaks.
@naufalkusumah21923 күн бұрын
I wouldn't recommend putting expensive race suspension and rear end on the trailer chassis and driving it around on the street with bad roads and potholes etc. Better just put regular suspension on the trailer and carry the spare parts inside it, much safer and economical
@jeffreygrivas3 күн бұрын
Doing it this way as a backup suspension would save room in the trailer for more parts to fix the car. The event is drive and drag, so the cars suspension is already exposed to road conditions. Sounds like a great idea.
@naufalkusumah21923 күн бұрын
@@jeffreygrivas I understand the logistical pov, but actually some of the drag n drive participants swap their race damper with a less expensive one during the driving part (Steve Morris talked about this in his video). And generally you dont need a whole spare rear end cuz its quite stout, so you bring only the spare axles and pinion gear in the trailer
@aussiegonz2 күн бұрын
then what you put the broken parts onto the trailer as its now going to need parts for the drive. they dont have time for that method either compared to just carrying spares.
@AB-80X2 күн бұрын
The race suspension should not be run on the car, let alone on a heavy trailer. There's a reason why the guys running big power has a set of shocks for racing and a set for the drive.

Yes, Mullet bed with a topper. But it has to be made to look like it started life as a trailer by design. I work in the aerospace industry. It’s interesting to hear you describe 6061 aluminum as really stout. Because we consider it junk and only make fixtures out of it because it’s soft as butter. Almost everything we make is 7025, 7050, or 7085 aluminum.
@nobuddy13642 күн бұрын
But strong enough for many purposes, inexpensive, and you can machine it with a butter knife.
@CGT802 күн бұрын
You mean "AIRCRAFT" grade 6061 isn't 100% full skookum? Maybe it is only 60% full skookum...........as if full is anything other than 100%. Apparently, it doesn't bend for shit either. My metal supplier recommended a different alloy for bendable sheet. It is great for machining parts and weighs less. I just wish my 1965 Miller goldstar 330 abp had square wave or modified waves and frequency for welding it. 460 amps is hot as hell but not so great when you can't focus the power. Advertising is a joke, obviously. Stout, strong, heavy, fast, expensive, beautiful, cheap, smart, old..............all relative terms.
@stick0042 күн бұрын
@ , “aircraft grade” only means the chemical make up of the 6061 is guaranteed to be more precisely: aluminum (97.9 %), magnesium (1.0 %), silicon (0.6 %), copper (0.28 %), chromium (0.2 %), and a trace amount of other elements. Its rarely used for structural components. 95% of the time if we a machining it, it is for fixtures or for mockup parts that a not meant for flight. Why? Because it’s cheap. It’s also too soft for flight.
@CGT80Күн бұрын
@@stick004 What you haven't addressed is, why is 6061 called aircraft grade? Was it previously used before the 7000 series became the choice, or has 7000 series always been available and used along side 6061?
@stick004Күн бұрын
@@CGT80 , not all 6061 is”aircraft grade.” Like I said above, aircraft grade is certified to have a specific composition. Anything that doesn’t meet that stringent criteria, becomes regular 6061. 7000 series wasn’t always available, but the certification process of composition is required for all materials. Our company has an entire department just to make sure that what we receive is what we ordered. And the customer (ie Lockheed, Boeing, Northup, etc.) also gets all of the certifications that come with the material when they get every finished part. It’s a lot of paperwork, but they design these parts to function at near 100% threshold, not much safety margin. So I can cut .001” too much off a $20k part and it’s scrap. Always better to machine to nominal or the high side of the tolerances…
