70 years ago the village I live in was surrounded by the enemy. about 40 soldiers were sent to break the seige.They found an old man of the enemy ,a shepard, and had mercy and did not kill him.He immediately went to the enemy army and told them,the whole 40 man unit were killed along with many of our village. In our village there are still those who think that not killing the enemy old man was correct and humane.

Me too. Knew she was going to use that gun on one or more of the soldiers. I also think Jason knew his choice would inevitably lead to his death, and was ok with it. The Germans would surely have killed him if caught and if the Allies got hold of him he would die a traitor. If he did manage to escape he couldn't "go home," and would have to live on the run and always looking over his shoulder.

It is a pity that the emotional and humane tension infusing the picture was spoiled by an easy and overused twist at the end, where the big sister, who so squeamishly stabbed the "bad guy" was, an hour or two later, remorselessly ready to shoot the "good guy", with possibly the complicity of the "innocent" little sister. If the only idea of the movie was about our moral choices and their consequences with regard to fate, then fine, to hell with sentimentality. That makes for an honest thriller. But it seemed to me that there was another statement in the making, one of mercy and humanity, that could have prevailed over the unpalatable feeling, at least to me, that what we are eventually taking away from this movie is that even German kids could indeed have been lethal nazis.
@z115424 жыл бұрын
I am no psychologist, but maybe the stabbing jaded her so that it was much easier to kill now. Besides isn't the act of pulling a trigger from 25 feet away a lot less intimate than stabbing and thus less difficult. That last solder to die was the only thing that stood between her and freedom so she could have been more focused as a result of being so near to freedom.

I did love this film. It stuck with me. It was true to life, in my experience. Rather like the Aesop's fable about the fox & the scorpion: 🔵 A fox and a scorpion both need to cross a river. 🔴 The scorpion asks the fox for a ride on its back as it cannot swim. 🔵 The fox refuses saying “no you’ll sting me”. 🔴 The scorpion replies that it wouldn’t, as it would damage the both of them. 🔵 The fox agrees and allows the scorpion to ride on it’s back. 🔴 Half way across the river the scorpion stings the fox. 🔵 As the poison takes effect on the fox and it starts to sink it asks the scorpion, “Why?” 🔴 “Why did you sting me, now we are both going to die?” 🔵 The scorpion replies, “I couldn’t help myself, it’s in my nature”.

My Story, 2nd PVT William James Bartery -24th Infantry Division - Rifleman - USMC - 48th Platoon - 2nd Battalion - Hot Humid day in the Indochina road patrol's, I walked along the side of the road hearing buzzing around my sweaty face. "Fly's" I spoken'd. I walked along the path, Suddenly 2 of my Comrades got shot. One in the head 3 times, Second 1 Hit in the left leg archery. The Platoon SGT. told us to get down. We did and so, There was a Infantry VC and a Marksman. We didn't know where they were coming from until, One of are Comrades looked inside of his Binoculars and then said "Sir there coming from South East, By the Truck" the SGT. Looked "Alright." He aimed his M16 fired a 5.56mm into the Truck's Engine. The Truck Exploded, "Now its gonna be more hot!" my Comrade joked. The SGT. then said "Shut the fuck up..!.. Were in a Situation here!" He then zipped his mouth it looked like it was clear. Staff SGT. then said "48th Platoon up on your feet!" We stood. We arrived at the FOB, 2 of the Dead Comrades were thrown inside of a truck where they gathered all those bodies, Me and 2 of my Comrades payed are respects to the Dead Men. We then grabbed some Drinks and some food sat down I hang'd out for the rest of the night. We then went to bed, All we heard was Gun firing and MG's going off. The Day was over. Hope you enjoy this story I made, oh and btw I am not Allen Alonzo, I'm doing it on my Cousins account. So yeah I'll see you in the next story bye bye guys!

The reason why she did that it's because, she was taught not to believe in the enemy and she was brainwashed most likely when she was young while in the League of German Girls from the Hitler Youth before and currently at the war. This also applies to other German Kids that they are too, also taught in the same way that the enemy is their greatest archenemy and Germany is the only country that they can be safe to live and trust in. Also, the youth were easily taught than the older ones after the Nazi came into power.
@petergorelov4184 жыл бұрын
I don't think the brainwashing has something to do with it. Merely a question of survival. Pure logic: dead people don't talk. He showed a strong grief after she had murdered his fellow soldier. What will he do next if she put down the gun? Grab the rifle of his friend and kill her in return? Go back and inform French who will start the hunt? Considering the situation, killing Jason is the best way to win the time to flee as far as possible.

Stuff like this really happened in WW2. In the Battle of Saipan in the Pacific, there were civilians, mostly women and children, on the island and the Imperial Japanese Army told them American soldiers were barbaric and the USMC was special fighting force of men recruited from jail and insane asylums. This was just propaganda but many of the women threw their children off the cliffs and then they jumped themselves. During the Invasion of Sicily, there was the notorious Biscari Airfield Massacre, US soldiers Sergeant Horace T. West and Captain John T. Compton of the 180th Regiment of the 45th Infantry Division. West, in an act of rage, took a Thompson sub machine gun shot 45 Italian, some in Royal Italian army uniforms and some in civilian clothes and 3 German soldiers. Compton, emotionally stressed, order his men to open fire on the 34 Italian army and civilian soldiers who were taken prisoner. 12 were either wounded or killed. Whatever frontline they were sent to, some US soldiers can get real nasty with civilians. As long as there was Women, Alcohol, Gambling, Drugs or other Vices stuff like this always happened in war.

The older soldier had no reason to leave,he could have been the deciding voice.
