The procedure was spot on and well executed. The vase is nice. Artist friendly critique comment: The black was a bit overpowering and might have benefited from a heavier sand back before application of the subsequent colors.

Thanks for the feedk. I think you are right. I am still learning about using dye.

I've watched 3 of the 4 and, so far, like yours best. They're all good.

Amazing just how different the projects “turned” out. All four were done differently with unique final results. And all were very well done! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Three watched, one to go. You and Richard produced similar vases but with different processes. Sam went in bit different direction. All three are very good. Now I have to move on to see what Tomislav has done. The four way challenge really makes each project very interesting. Each of you always put a little difference and a little interest into your projects. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂

Cool project Mike! Interesting project. Really appreciate the details you provided as you turned the piece. Yours is the first I've watched, now off to watch the other 3. Looking forward to seeing the different takes each of you have on this project.

I agree i love the problem solving aspect of wood turning. I watch other turners and see if I can do the same project with the tools I have at my disposal. Good job!

Your the first to watch. I'm interested in this vase, and am thinking about how to mount as I don't have a Vac pump. Thanks Mike.

My problem too. Maybe a jam chuck with soft touch on tailstock?
@MikePeaceWoodturning6 ай бұрын
Turners tape on a profiled friction chuck would work. Or a very short tenon you build into the design.

I love the red oak Mike, but it can be a little tricky to turn. I picked up a few pieces about 4 years ago here in Oz. Is that the natural colour of the timber
@MikePeaceWoodturning6 ай бұрын
This project was dyed. Oak tends to turn to a dark amber.
@DavidBird-uu8km6 ай бұрын
Very nice I love the design. Off to see the other three. On a side note what brand of vacuum pump do you use?
@MikePeaceWoodturning6 ай бұрын
I bought a used Gast on eBay when they were a lot cheaper than they are now. There are cheaper options. Just get one that pulls at least 4CFM.
@gordcameron44096 ай бұрын
Great project. I'm going to try this and I'm wondering if you could have used just the vacuum chuck; that is, why not clean the outside face for a good seal, then flip back and forth. Were the tenon and chuck needed for centering?
@MikePeaceWoodturning6 ай бұрын
Probably. I just felt it would be more secure shaping the bad side that would not hold a seal held with a tenon.

Why the big watch? Sorry, but fed up of watching so called turners flouting all the safety rules?😤

It is a Samsung smart watch that can detect a fall and request help, similar to an Apple watch. I had a cousin who was wearing one when she had a cycling accident. It called her an ambulance. Your shop your rules. My shop, my safety practices.
