Thank you, friends, for bringing this vision of mine to life! I am SO impressed with how well you all made use of this song with unusual lyrics and how well it ended up working for the theme, and how well all the parts flowed together. I am so proud of how this turned out and so happy with how well everything flowed together. I'm gonna leave a detailed comment gushing about everyone's parts.
And yay for 24 fandoms represented, and even if you don't count the 8 fandoms that are only in my introduction part and no where else, there's still a good 16 fandoms throughout the entire collab. There were even more scenes and fandoms and characters I wished we all could've vidded/I wished could've made it in, but I'm really happy with the fact that we got so many in. ;)
I'm planning to become a foster caregiver, to sign up to be a foster parent when i am financially stable enough, ideally when I find a co-parenting partner... so hopefully within the next 3 ish years I'll really be ready to start the process. I've been working on establishing my own business I started & it's been slow going so I don't really have the necessary financial situation quite yet. But hopefully it's within reach. I've been talking about & thinking about my dream to become a foster parent for nearly 20 years. I think ever since I was 13 years old I was thinking about it. My mom was quite abusive and I am a sex-averse asexual and I had a lot of reasons I was drawn towards this alternative path to parenthood. I realized at some point that my grandmother who helped raise me was like an emotionally neglectful foster guardian in some ways too. This all led to my goals being what they are for me.
I have been researching a lot about the perspectives of Former Foster Youth (FFY) and I really wanted this video to center THEIR perspectives (not the foster parents, who are often framed as "saviors"). I wanted us vidders to capture the struggles foster youth deal with, the trauma, the complex mixed emotions, the wide spectrum of experiences from they can have within the foster care system. Most of these perspectives are from the point of view of the USA - I believe Orphan Black takes place in Canada, there's a sci-fi/alien component to the Roswell, New Mexico story, it's not all super based in reality, it's all just fiction, but... from what I can tell from years of listening to the voices of FFY, I think this video is mostly based on very real things kids and teens go through. There is a lot of oversimplification of issues in television and film, there's a weirdly high percentage of teens in foster care who talk about having been given up as a baby but no one found an adoptive parent for them. That seems really unrealistic for a kid without severe disability so I'm not sure why that keeps being portrayed that way. There are honestly too many parents wanting to adopt the babies... but nonetheless, I feel like this video highlighted a lot of the real issues and traumatic situations that foster youth have to survive. And I love how it turned out! Thank you everyone!

My comments for everyone in the collab: EverySongEndsStudios: 0:38 with "Curiosity, kitten" lyric match is the cutest but also saddest little thing, I love that lyric match of yours. I also loved how you did a Christmas/Santa thing during the lyric "Wrapped in..." I love how you only vidded one dynamic, Eric & Tommy, for both of your parts, kept it simple and really captured a lot of their whole little story, showed how it can be the right choice not to adopt a kid, even if it hurts both of them at the time. And I know that's also personal for you and your life and a choice you've made in the past... Your parts were so great. Boy Meets World was such a good show. Eventyrpige: I really love how seamlessly you vidded all 3 of your fandoms, you really captured some of my favorite parts of Bones and managed to focus on the foster care part of Noah's experience rather than later him being adopted. I'm so glad you got that image of Sweet's back in there, it was so memorable, and paralleling the voiceover from Bones with the SVU moment of the case worker not even knowing the baby's name and treating the baby like a file was so genius. I also loved seeing the voiceover about the old rib fractures while Olivia rubs his chest lovingly, just lots of careful vidding to get maximum stuff into your parts. I didn't see most of the episodes of OUaT with that Emma stuff, or I didn't remember a lot of it, but I loved every second of it. Amazing job. dixiekat2007: I really liked the voiceovers and fandoms you chose. They captured the theme well. Thanks so much for your parts! I'm so glad Jo got in the collab for such a significant percentage of it thanks to you. The fact that she was a foster youth who aged out of foster care is such a significant part of her story. lbchatterbox: You matched the lyrics about "Are you happy where you're sleeping" so well and I was so hoping it would not be ignored when I chose this song originally, and I'm so glad multiple fandoms of yours had scenes that worked for that sentiment. I loved all 3 of the fandoms and characters you vidded so much. You make me kinda want to rewatch The Secret Life of the American Teenager, which is an impressive thing lol... Shawn's "For how long?" in response to the offer to give him a home is so powerful in the context of this collab. I love how you found the moment where Tyrell actually called Rome and Regina "fosters" lol. And I like that you included a voiceover for context about how this was a plot about a parent being deported! Tons of great stuff in both your parts. ;) Oh and I hope you don't mind that I chose to vid that same actress who plays Regina (Christina Moses) as a former foster youth in my part. I know that's like the only repeat actor in the entire collab. Supsi85: You know how much I love your vidding always, and these parts are definitely no exception. "it's been years since we were born" was so interesting/fun to see vidded in the context of how it's been SO many more years since the actual year of Michael's birth than most characters his age would be lol... and the "we" applies to Max and Isobel in my head too. The "Jesus, Michael" scene where he insists he's fine after the cigarette burns is intense and so good, and that voiceover about how people passed on him because they saw a troubled kid and decided his value wasn't enough, I mean. That's maybe one of the most real things in the entire collab about teenagers in foster care. About how people react when I say I want to be a foster parent, even - random acquaintances in my life have said things to me like, "won't that be too difficult to deal with such troubled kids with such scary/overwhelming behavioral problems?" and it's like. This is the message these kids get over and over. That they aren't worth all the extra attention they need, all the extra effort it takes to parent them, loving them isn't worth how much sacrifice it'll cost the people who could choose to do that. Then the way you captured Michael near-crying talking about how he can't relive his youth and all the Dallas stuff was so powerful. I am so impressed by his acting too ;) Thank you for capturing it all the way you did. It worked so well. EmmieClassix: Your way of vidding Callie and Jude was SO worth extending the collab deadline as long as it would take ;) I'm so glad you were able to participate in the end. Wow I love how you vid this show SO much. You managed to find such a creative way to vid the "Six,"... "Seven," at the start of your parts, I'm beyond impressed at that match lol. You captured so much in the voiceovers. You vidded scenes that really captured the emotions too - of the song, of the theme, of the voiceovers. The way you vidded Jude listing off the things he was labeled as, and how they ALL actually relate to this theme - having a dead mom, being the new kid at schools, - matching them with visuals - that was so well done. Callie talking about hating that this is her story just sums up SO much so succinctly. I can't really express just how much it all works for me. I love these characters and this show so much so thank you for vidding it all the way you did. And the high school graduation statistic goes into the final part in the collab SO nicely I wonder if one of you did it that way on purpose... lol... speaking of... Pitu': I love the fandom I didn't know, how clearly you captured the storyline! Your match for "wish you'd let me in" was PERFECTION. You make me tempted to watch S.W.A.T. even though I really think Cop Shows are police propaganda I'd rather not be watching as much of... 😅 And your vidding of the OTH plot was unique and really well done too! I love the writing of "in a way she told me she didn't want me", such a simple translation of how it's such a core abandonment wound to be placed for adoption. Doesn't make much sense to me why characters like Emma Swan in OUaT, Jo in Grey's Anatomy, and Sam here stayed in Foster Care as long as they did, at least Lux on Life Unexpected they tried to explain it with a heart defect and surgeries reason... but. I don't remember off the top of my head at least any reason why Sam on OTH would not have been adopted if she was really given up by her mom at birth. But what she's feeling is very real nonetheless, for any child given up at birth, and I love how you captured it in such an emotional and powerful way. That part worked so well for the "All your life" lyric. Your stuff with Brooke actually being proud of what looks like Sam's schoolwork after she felt like no one cared and she was invisible was such a perfect transition out of the end of EmmieClassix's part about 50% of kids in the foster system not graduating high school. Also your "dozen" voiceover flowed so well so close to all the numbers in the first The Fosters collab part in the collab too... your parts just paralleled Emmie's so well. Thank you for ending it in such a wonderfully "Ending" vibe kind of way. You clearly purposefully planned to make sure the ending felt like an ending. Amazing job.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment. This season had so much good stuff about Michael again. And that whole part about value seems to be so central to his character. I really love how the actor portrays him. This was such a great collab and everyone seemed to work hard to fit your theme. You definitely found A LOT of moments and voiceovers to fit. I really don't know a lot of these fandoms and probably wouldn't have been able to participate if more than one was required lol. I did love Life Unexpected though so it's cool to see it here.

@@Supsi85 i love so much how the actor portrays him too and i think your vidding has a special impressive way of really capturing it. Can't wait to see that Michael Vlamis does next ;) This Is Us had the storyline with Deja I barely vidded a hint of in the intro but at least you knew those 3 fandoms in this collab (your own and 2 of mine) lol... My dad's reaction to this collab of mine was that there seems to be more foster care storylines on tv percentage wise than is realistic because it's just so dramatic and i did say i think I just have watched (and then shown him) a way higher percentage of these types of shows that contain these storylines because I'm so interested in them lol... I end up drawn to a lot of these shows. Generally even if I'm not watching the show because of the foster care plot, I'm still watching it generally because the show is focused on characters surviving traumatic situations and some of the most intense things the real world ever throws at people. I extra love a certain kind of real world based drama. ;) Because a lot of other people like you haven't watched nearly as many of these kinds of series as i have lol...

@@VioletEmerald Oh yeah Deja, I did notice her. Just didn't quite remember at the end. I think for me it was the most touching part of the finale actually, how her and Randall ended up after all those turbulent teenage years. I really loved it. Yeah you definitely are drawn to these types of shows:)

@@Supsi85 I love how when I slowly keep watching this TV show with my dad, in mid-season 2, i keep recognizing little moments in the show as extra familiar to me from your vidding, especially these parts but also some of your other stuff... this time it was just the 1:34 paper exchange between Michael and Sanders on the table at... it has stuck in my mind.

I almost did not take part in this because I didn't vid a lot of the fandoms that I knew portrayed foster children, but oh I'm so glad I did. I love the unique collabs (I have to add, I so miss that group) you always come up with and they end up perfect every single time. Beautiful job everyone and the voiceovers are just so good.

This turned out so well! Great job everyone. Thank you Emily for letting me be a part of this collab. It was really cool to see and vid the fandoms through a different perspective from the usual. And like I’ve already said I just really like the idea for this collab, you so often have great ideas for collabs with specific themes :)
