This video is for Russel over at RR restoration channel. I cut out a couple of signs for him and he is doing the fabrication, assembly and painting himself so just showing him how I bolt through multiple layers.

like the use of the 6-32 screws. I've use thin neodymium magnets a few times as well some silicon. I don't get to do a lot of signs, so I am always looking for tips on the multi-layer attachment so I can powder coat the pieces all separate. Thanks for sharing Gary!

Interesting about the magnets, would not have thought of that, but definitely something to think about. I have had good luck with the 3M VHB double sided tape. Its super strong stuff, and saves some time on fabrication work

Have you ever tried muriatic acid to remove the coating on your fasteners? You can buy it by the gallon at your home store (Lowes, Home Depot, etc.) and just dip the part that you want to weld into the acid so the rest remains coated. Sometimes sanding kind of smears the coating into the metal which may be why you got that smoky residue after your tacks.

I know it’s been a while since this was posted but I’m wondering if maybe some epoxy would be a bit better then double sided tape? I love your work though. Great job

What do you use to mount on the wall?

I made a video a few days back showing that. In this case, i will just run a wire between 2 of the studs in the back.

Each layer of the sign gets painted a different color, and is then assembled afterwards.

Plug welding through 6 layers might be a little tricky as well, but yea, SYF is right, the reason I make it all in separate layers is to eliminate the need for masking
