“I’m a lightweight canoe enthusiast. When I go camping don’t like to carry much stuff, because reasons, therefore I only bring a bobby pin and 6cm of paracord. Really light weight and small blueprint.

I have a couple of different camp chairs; the Trekology like you have and a Klymit "Ridgeline" (?). The latter is more robust, has a taller back, a bit heavier, and costs over twice as much as the Trekology. But I'm pushing 210lbs/98kg and I prefer the Klymit. That said, if I was tripping solo I would take the Trekology as every bit of weight loss helps.

I would like a longer back on my chair, I just have to wait for this one to wear out! Thanks for watching.

Great video. What kind of microphone are you using with your GoPro? Your audio is perfect.

It’s the built in microphones, they’re actually very good from the front. Thanks for watching. Regards Paul

Thanks Amy, you will find the links in the video description. Note: I have never seen any of these issues in your videos which is another reason why they are so enjoyable.

Nicely crafted as ever Paul. Like Ken T. I was going to ask about PLB… I even bought the locator beacon before my canoe arrived. I love how you focus on minimalism and keep honing down your kit. With a 16’6” Wenonah, I seem to just keep adding gear… even though most of the time I sleep in the comfort of the Kombi!

Hi Spike, if it wasn’t for the new iPhone I would get a Garmin in Reach as you can also message on them. Oh so easy to keep adding gear, I have purchased a lot over the past few years. Cheers Paul

Just got recommended this video. Thanks for sharing mate. I've also got the Copper Spur tent, Nemo pillow and S2S mat, so a very similar setup! Been looking at those Alton 3x3 tarps for a while now, might have to bite the bullet and get one.

Out of interest, have you tried hammock camping? Always wondered whether I should invest in a hammock/tarp combo v an ultralight tent

Good one Paul. Very informative. A couple of questions and or thoughts. Do you just use ice bricks in your eskies? I’m surprised you don’t mention, or have attached to your pfd a personal locating beacon. I think your idea of a ferry rod is excellent for when being remote. I would suggest a plb on the Gorge trip. When are you looking at doing that and how far are you expecting to travel? Also what length measuring mat do you use. Im getting one and thinking the 60cm will fit best for our canoes. I like the way you have worked out over time exactly what you need to be comfortable on your trips. It is an ongoing process. Looking forward to your next one. Cheers Ken

Hi Ken, I use the Arctic Ice Gel Packs. Regarding a PLB, I will update my phone to the iPhone 15 in September and utilise the Apple GPS emergency messaging platform which has now been rolled out in Australia. This eliminates the need for more equipment and will always be in my PFD. Not sure what you mean by a measuring mat, please clarify. Looking to do section 6 and 7 of the Clarence River canoe trail, just not sure when as yet as it will require a long weekend and good weather. Cheers Paul
