Murong Chen might not be as awesome as the General but he always choose the FL and always respect the FLs choice. He's willing to let her go if it would make her happy. I love the FL, she made a choice and stick to it. She may have loved the ML but it doesn't mean that she's going to let him walk all over her.

This is a great version of the “My Husband Returned from War with Another Woman”-story with really good actors. In this version the two of them are only engaged and the story behind him marrying another woman is quite different. Despite the General’s actions, I couldn’t help feeling a bit sorry for him, but the story is a testament to the importance of communicating and never taking another person for granted. Although somewhat bittersweet, I enjoyed this one. SYNOPSIS - SPOILER ALERT!!! In ancient times, FL is the daughter of the Duke. She follows the man (2ML) she loves, a General who just returned from 3 years on the battlefields, and sees him meeting up with another woman. When he hears that FL is present, he comes out and tells her he already asked for an annulment of their engagement since he is marrying another woman (2FL), who is already carrying his child, the same night. He even humiliates her by “inviting” her to witness their wedding night. It turns out that even if FL saved him from dying in the streets, gave him a home and helped him achieve merits in the army, he never intended to marry her. His ultimate humiliation of her is to “offer” her to be a concubine in his mansion. Littles does she know that he has his reasons to do so. But, right at that time, a mutual friend (ML) who has been studying in another part of the country for 5 years, arrives and asks FL to marry him instead. Ofc he got help from FL and her dad (Duke) but he also did put a lot of hard work in to it. I know he had his reasons for his behavior at the beginning, but if he truly trusted FL he should have explained it at least through a most trusted subordinate. He chose the country's safety over his love, as a citizen he did a great job. But why would FL had to pay a price like that. The humiliation he caused by withdrawing the royal decree in public is immense for a girl. Not something I would forget. Maybe I might forgive him after learning the truth, but I don't think I can live a normal life with him after all the distress and humiliations.

I actually prefer the ending of Goodbye My Princess. Over the years FL sacrifice so much for the General. In exchange, she made her family bankrupt, she was treated as a shameless woman, and he humilliated her publicly by making her walk back in her wedding dress with the annulment decree, he came back with a woman whom he shared bed along all the play and even got her pregnant. He even ofended her by offering to stay by his side as a lowly concubine to warm his bed. Everyone in the town was aware of her misfortune, so a few words or excuses are not enough to erase the pain of his decisions. ML willingly exchange her years of efforts and love just to gain political power. No woman should endure such humiliation. PD: But since this play has a second ML, at least FL was not so miserable till the very end.

Therefore, general Pei doesn't deserve the respect and much less the love and devotion female lead gave him in the past. I don't care at all about his reasons. Let me get this straight - are you telling me "a mighty general who climbed high through his exceptional talents is afraid of a female spy so he had to take her sexually harassing him passively and break his lover's heart????" Are we dum? 😅 The first five minutes and I'm already disgusted with the movie. The guy says "you can be my bedwarmer, not wife", but she keeps on questioning and arguing about his promise. Pool ML he should have told her the truth, the worst is he planned it with 2ml to let him take care of FL Not sure if FL does know what love is , she seems to just grateful for what 2ML did for her and can't forgive ML.

He was a hero for the nation, but besides that, he also wanted to rise to the top so he could truly deserve her since he was once just a servant. He fully trusted her because she swore she would only love and marry him. He even trusted the 2ML, knowing they were childhood friends, maybe believing the 2ML could protect her best. But everything turned out wrong, and that’s why he became so toxic. He should have just spoken up instead if humiliating her at the beginning, but yea if he did we're not discussing about this right now 🤣🤣🤣🤣 As for the FL, she doesn’t even love the 2ML-she keeps saying she’s just grateful for what he did for her. Love can develop over time, but from what I see, she just doesn’t want him to die.

This is difficult to judge. Pei Zhou (beggar/becomes General/ becomes Emperor) i believe he deeply loved fl. He fought to become General to make country safe for her to live in. In doing so he found this network of spies (very real threat wanting to overthrow his country). He makes the decision to save the country ( and this will also save and keep fl safe). But to do so he has to convince the greentea enemy... now this part is crucial for love and country/kingdom... if he had sent a secret letter to fl explaining and asking cooperation he would have saved his country and his love. But he doesn't. Fl is heartbroken. I mean she believes he is the father of greentea 's unborn child. Here he crossed her bottom line. (He didn't but fl believes he did the ultimate betrayal). Now i'd say the biggest mistake he made was that he was over confident. Their love did not stand this test. I think he is a good General and Emperor. I believe he genuinely loves fl. It is a pity that their love didn't make it through this last obstacle. I think that they got along great. It's not that he treated her bad over a long period and her love was eroded. No it was her discovering on wedding day that he brought a pregnant wife and will demote her. He literally needed days, maybe a week, and it would be all over and he'd be able to explain. Yes 2ml has loved her for 10 years. But i ask myself, what would the 2ml have done if he was in ml's shoes??? That is the big question. Would he protect the country AND WOULD HE PERHAPS HAVE FOUND A WAY TO INFORM FL OF THE PROBLEM?? the solution lies in...what would any other man in Pei Zhou's shoes have done? I respect Pei Zhou for what he did. I just wish a better outcome for him. I think the price he paid was a bit much.
