seems like most people don't understand how timber is used, the timber this saw produces is called backsawing which shows off the grain and used in the furniture industry for table tops or anywhere you want the grain to show, 1/4 sawn timber is for structural use.

this machine goes against the very way wood is sawn into lumber, the heart wood lumber will cause warped lumber. always start and cut the outer wood off as 1/2 sawn or 1/4 sawn lumber first leaving the heartwood for 4x4 or 6x6 material. you will always produce better lumber this way.

You would be surprised at how many people at lumber yards would look at you crosseyed if you start dropping terms such as 1/2 saw or 1/4 sawn. Lumber is Lumber, like Spam is meat.

Hi. I worked for a large lumber company for many years. The ideal for this type of gang saw is to keep the sawyer working on the larger logs. The Gang does two jobs,one it gets the face and lower grades from the sides the center or heart wood is cut into a smaller cant that can then be sold to palate mills,has they use the lowest grade of wood. This unit may or may not have guilds that can be changed to set the thickness. The gang I did the saws for was a Salem thin kerf model I could adjust the thickness from 4/4 to 10/4 and the center to. 16/4 or higher if needed.It ran saws which I repaired from 100 plate to 50 plate Very thin kerf It made more board feet per log,less saw dust.It could run the cants has fast has you could feed it. We ran millions of board feet per year.

I was wondering the same, why there is not an industrial dust extractor connected to suck up the sawdust from the exhaust port. This machine no doubt is three phase probably 460-480V current draw 40 or more amps per phase

jaime mora there was conveyor underneath that disposes sawdust from the inside of the saw. I suppose it up to user what sort of container he wants to use for that purpose

Useless for wide boards but great for 1 by 2 and 1 by 3, 4, 5, etc.Next step is to rotate that stack of boards by 90 degrees and make the strips you need. Just remove certain blades to vary width of the strips produced.

Its interesting to see people trying to cut wide boards from bean pole trees. It shows the poor state of our forests and the available timber.Sad. I have 2x4's for roof rafters made from clear edge grain douglas fir on a span of 12 feet no problem.5000 psi tensile strength. .

Our forests are actually in great shape and aside from food is the only renewable resource. People talk about saving the "old growth" forests which is about like saying we need to save the desert as that is what it is like in "old growth" forests, very little life. This is because these trees have stopped reproducing. The Spotted Owl was rare in old growth because they relocated to younger growth stands.
