I'd love to see a redesign of this with CMY or CMYK, as that's the most versatile and adaptable colour palette for print medium
@blake3dcake
@blake3dcake Жыл бұрын
CMYK is subtractive meaning subtracting from a white background (all color) . RGB is additive meaning adding to a black background (no color). Transparent PLA prints out semi-transparent (half white, yet see though). This makes it difficult to select a primary color model!

@@blake3dcake Additive as in emitting colour, since it’s paint either way it has to be the CMY colour space
@damianh760
@damianh760 Жыл бұрын
@@blake3dcake absolutely agree. I thought CMY might work better because when you're filming a project on a white background, then the passive colour of the piece is going to appear as white to the camera, since the PLA is transparent. Therefore, you can subtract from that ideal point

@@blake3dcakeI do get what you're saying, but if you *did* want to make a truly additive colour filament, you'd need to find red, green and blue pigments that glow somehow. That might be fun actually
@blake3dcake
@blake3dcake Жыл бұрын
@@plane9182 the filament is semi-transparent so light from the room is able to shine through the material. This produces an emissive quality which is why it is neither fully additive nor full subtractive

You can also vary the width as well! And all you need is tranparent PLA

To get around the 3 color limitation, why not make two sets, but at differant heights? The spool would need to be set higher, but the mechanism wouldnt have the bleed problem lile the red.

Why do computer people use green as a primary color? By definition, it's a secondary color.

You may want to check what is additive and substractive color blending. Depends if the color is light or a matrial that reflects light.

If you used a stronger red marker (brighter red maybe cut a slit into a big ass chizel tip permanent marker from a brand with higher output) and mount the markers to a direct drive or just cut out a section of bowden closer to the nozzle you could get red perfect. And you'd be able to control the colors with print poop and or purge block like a bambu with that shorter purge distance. Might be able to do some really fancy color lithophanes or hueforge stuff. Could be a legit product if you do it this way. I'd buy it.

Would this be feasible to use with something like Hueforge? Or would the requiriement for transparent material interfere. You'd be forced to purge the colour that isn't correct after the swap doing the swap manually.

Acrylic paint pens will provide a more opaque effect. Or try starting with a white filament

One big mistake I've seen every company make with multicolor printing is using the default filament thickness. I think the painting process would be more efficient the smaller the thickness of the filament. Normally 1.75 filament and 0.4 nozzle are used, so the filament is being reduced 4,375 times. Besides that this causes it to be less precise. But this bug is present in all multicolor systems. If instead of fusing filaments or changing filaments on the 1.75 size, it was done on a size closer to that of the nozzle, the color transition would be faster and the waste towers would be less. In your case you are painting the filament, but the problem is the same as that of other systems, if for example you use two nozzles in series you would gain much more control. The first extruder is external to the printer and reduces the diameter of the filament to 0.8 or 0.5 for example. Then it goes through your coloring machine and this filament of reduced and colored diameter finally goes through the extruder of the 0.4 printer. With this method you need to adjust two speeds of the two extruders. In fact, with this approach, you can even consider putting more than one coloring device in series so that you can go from working with 3 colors to 6, 9, 12, 15, etc.

Interesting idea on how to reduce the purge tower size... I think the 1.75mm thickness is the most economically efficient solution in the market. Decreasing the thickness of the filament may pose manufacturing challenges as well as decreased reliability for end users which means a higher price for a more unreliable product.. it still sounds like a good idea!. But also, at the end of the day the market controls everything

Blake I get the sense that you are gradually ascending to godhood. This is so cool. I particularly enjoyed the clip of the markers installed backwards, with the assembly "dancing" on a piece of paper. The result belongs in a museum.
