A piece we played in band last year included the 4th multi-phonic sax fingering. It's called "The Cave You Fear."

You should mention that the fingerings can differ between sizes (soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and so on).

Baptiste and Van Gelder are beasts- Check out Donny McCaslin, he uses them a bunch too, an absolute monster of a tenor player!

How are they notated in music? How can you tell on music which fingering to play?

Depending on the speed of oscillation, they can be notated as trills, but normally they are notated as regular chords, like they would for any other instrument. The first one he plays in this video is a trill between low F# and high G if memory serves well.

just a heads-up, it looks like you forgot to link any tracks by/with Baptiste Herbin and/or Ben van Gelder in the description. I'd love to know some specific songs with polyphonics. I don't want to listen to all their stuff for only some of it to feature polyphonics bc ironically for a saxophonist, I'm not a big fan of jazz. For "context," I got into saxophone to try to play alternative rock, and good polyphonics would be a great way to add to the "aggressive" vibe I like to have with my saxophone.

Anyone know what it’s called when you play a note then immediately sharpen it then continue with the song? I accidentally did and I thought Kenny G possessed me.

Nice video, DeMarius, but I'm trying to get rid of an annoying multiphonics sound on my 2nd octave G at certain volume levels. Any ideas.

Hi! I'm a beginner tenor saxaphone player, and this just happened recently, but everytime I play a high g, I play a multiphonic, and I currently don't want to play a multiphonic yet, I've practiced for some time now and I'm trying to fix it, but it feels like I can't. Could you give me some advice on how to stop playing a multiphonic that you don't want to play? Thanks!
@iamoroso31442 жыл бұрын
Idk if you ever fixed your problem but it could most likely be a leak or you just aren’t supporting the note enough but I’m not too sure
