A overview of the process of creating my handprinted Christmas cards for this year. I designed a 2 color card, and decided to use high impact polystyrene (HIPS) instead of linoleum to carve it in. I often sketch multiple layers digitally, and print our from laser printer and then iron that on my linoleum.
Decided to try that on the HIPS, and to my surprise I didn't melt my plastic and managed to transfer my design. The toner did stick to the plate, so I had to scrub the paper off wet, and then after engraving use a slightly abrasive paste to get most of the toner off.
The engraving and printing process was pretty standard for a 2 plate print. I use a Morgan line-o-scribe press with an adjustable roller for printing. It has grippers for paper which makes registering pretty easy.
Hope you enjoy this little process video.
