Thank you for this information. When a loved one is suffering this much, it helps to understand what is happening and what can be expected to happen.

Wow this video was so helpful. I love how you structured your lesson and the organization of all the signs/symptoms, labs, and things to monitor for into body systems. It was so easy to follow, and I can actually summarize what you said after just watching one play through because of how you organized everything. I have my advanced pharm and patho exam on Monday. Thank you so much!

Doc can an undiangosed celiac crisis with a metabolic acidosis lead to a multi organs failure ?
@NursingSchoolExplained
@NursingSchoolExplained 26 күн бұрын
Hi there, any disease process, if severe enough, can cause MODS. This is especially true for acid/base imbalances like you are referring to as they affect multiple organs, starting with the renal and respiratory systems. Hope this helps! Btw, I'm a nurse! 😊

If one has confirmed MODS, are they suffering by the treatments given to try and extend their life, thanks.

MODS is a serious disorder due to multiple organs failing. This requires critical care interventions, that can have certain side effects, in an effort to save the patients' life. The level and extent of interventions have to be discussed with the patient (if they are able to do so) and/or their family in collaboration with the health care team to evaluate all possible risks and benefits and treat the patient according to their wishes and individual situation.

Where does the increase DDimer come from?
@NursingSchoolExplained
@NursingSchoolExplained 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Velocir, D-Dimer is a fibrin degradation product (a protein that occurs after the body breaks down a blood clot). In MODS, microclots form and are released into the circulation (see patho section of the video). The body is attempting to break these clots down because they impair the perfusion to organs. The D-Dimer therefore is a measure of blood clots dissolving and the severity of MODS. Hope this helps!

@@NursingSchoolExplained I guess what I’m really asking is how are microclots formed during MODS? What’s the pathophys rationale behind it? Other than that, this was a great all encompassing video! Fantastic work!
@NursingSchoolExplained
@NursingSchoolExplained 2 жыл бұрын
In MODS, there is a widespread inflammatory response that leads to massive thrombin formation and fibrin deposition. Monocytes and macrophages are activated and fibrinolysis is inhibited. This leads to microclots that inhibit perfusion to important organs leading to MODS. Hope this helps!
