super videos Jemma but I suggeast that you wear a mask when sweeping out the trailer after a dusty cargo. Probably seems okay at the moment but it will manifest itself when you are older. Not many bother but Asthma and a nasty cough could result.

I have to say, your videos make me feel somewhat nostalgic for a life once lived. Whilst no Class 1 driver, I drove across the UK in a 7.5 tonne box. I know, not at all the same, but some things compare. To give some context; I graduated from university in 2001, needed to make some money, could drive a 7.5-tonner on my 1996 licence, figured I'd work as much as I could doing something I loved - driving. I was up at the crack of GodKnowsWhen every Monday. I would pack myself up for the week as, tramping, I didn't know if I'd make it back home until the weekend. My Mercedes Atego had EVERYTHING; I bought a TV, a DVD player, heightened roof, sunroof, sleeper cab, food storage, fridge/freezer. Being before GPS + satnav, had atlases (atlai?) and city guides for all the major cities, but having toured most cities with my band I already sort of knew my way around and how to get from there to, well...there. Once I was packed up on Monday, I was ready to go. I had a regimented radio plan, talkSport in the morning, Mark and Lard on Radio 1 in the afternoon, XFM if around London. I went - literally - from Hull to London to Cornwall to Birmingham to Hull (two days), then reload, sleep in the yard, then up to Scotland, until back home for Friday PM/Saturday AM, then pick up my car, and spend the weekend with my then-girlfriend in York. Then go again Monday. I loved my truck life. And I miss it so much. Yes, you can argue - on paper - modern life is better; I'm a shipbroker, I live in The Netherlands, I am financially better-off than ever. But...I was never happier than when I pulled into Penrith truck stop on a Wednesday night, able to take a working/hot shower, ahead of the run to Thurso and back down. All the time, I'd seen the most amazing scenes, listened to music I was reviewing for Teletext (I was a freelance music journalist also at the time), and driving. I salute you, Jemma.

Hi Gemma, although there are more women truck drivers these days, you're still a bit of a rarity, I believe only about 2% of HGV drivers are women, if you have time might be an interesting video on what motivated you to do it.

No worries about not answering comments, or even liking, individually Jemma & Jeanette - the more interesting ones can be used as content ideas for future vids, explaining stuff as you go along, which is a nice, natural way of doing it. I really hope that people who mess you about get charged full rate, for the loss of revenue Wains could otherwise be making. And if they persist, they go out of business. Do organisations ever get blacked ? The classic for me was the dock in Dorset? which was like ...we're in the logistics business ...but not when it rains. I'm like, so build fucking grain stores then.
@jemmawarren27
@jemmawarren27 Жыл бұрын
Indeed I pick up a lot of stuff that I forget to explain from the comment that I can add to other videos in the future☺️ it depends on the reasoning sometimes and a little give and take as sometimes we may be late with a load because of being stuck in a freak accident that is out of our control. But if a company is rubbish consistently then hauliers will avoid doing work for them unless they are quiet

@rosscopeeco69
@rosscopeeco69 Жыл бұрын
I get really wound up at the wait you've had. Due to incompetence that's complete time and financial loss to the company. The joke is that the load has probably been sold on about 5 times by people in their spare room with a laptop, each getting a screw at it and the hauler getting the scraps. That's not a rant about wains AT ALL just the haulage industry and how it works. If a company ordered a taxi they'd pay on the meter whilst their BS get sorted but haulers rarely have the luxury or if they do it's only after 2 hours demurrage
@jemmawarren27

I really like your videos. A real eye opener. I just got my C+E. Something you did which I don't understand. Why did you manually enter rest until now. I thought when you take your card out you put it on rest just beforehand and then that covers you, or no???🤔
@jemmawarren27
@jemmawarren27 Жыл бұрын
Well I think it should too!! It’s one of those grey areas they don’t tell you about and I think it’s a bit pedantic to be honest. Because you’re taking your weekly 45 or 24 or even your daily 9 or 11 you need to record it as bed which I think for most tachos it prompts you and you just press yes continuously. But you would have thought that taking your card out and putting it back in with nothing else recorded in those gaps would be enough 🙄 hope that makes sense ☺️☺️

Hi Jemma, you give the image of being incredibly patient when you are confronted with delays or grumpy loader drivers. Kudo's to you for the informative and interesting web-site. I'm a retired master mariner and I loaded millions (yes millions) of tons of grains, ores and hydrocarbons over 45 years at sea, It's interesting to get an insight into the other side of the transport industry. Road-transport as opposed to sea-transport. Picking your way down country lanes is like me navigating shallow coastal channels line Mallacca Straights and the Dover Straights. You describe your job well. Beverly

Hiya Jemma, what a brilliant channel! My Dad was a truck driver most of his life and this brings back so many memories as I used to go away with him every school holiday from the early eighties. I am working in Qatar and look forward to your new videos. It would be nice to hear a wee bit more of that V8 now and again 🙂

Olly sent me the video of you guy saying hi! Thanks so much for that! Glad you had a great time down there. Oh goodness could you imagine getting the cart all that way 🤣 sometimes we barely get it around the 7 carnivals 🤣 I’m not a massive fan of dafs but I wouldn’t mind a test drive in a new one just to see how it compares to the older models. Always open minded although I’d much rather keep my scania. I will probably have her another couple of years as she’s only 3 years old ☺️

@@jemmawarren27 oh no !! I didn't realise he sent it to you 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣🤣🤣 he's very spontaneous and just pulled out his phone when Lisa said I was happy to see you both on a live together as you are both my favourite KZbinrs 🤣🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ each to their own on trucks and tractors, there's so many to decide on I think we all have our favourite brand's, I for some reason like the Scania next gen in the orange bailey colour's but love the look of the new xg daf. But I think my favourite truck is Steve Will's Volvo with the air brushing of Jethro on it, just such a tribute to such a great Cornish legend, thanks for the reply Jem I know you get inundated with replys now so it's an honour when you get chance to reply 👌👌👍
