This video is a bit of a departure from the type of outdoor content that I usually post, but I decided to post this video in the hopes that it may encourage someone else who is currently dealing with an MS flare up and specifically if they are dealing with diplopia also commonly known as double vision. I know it sounds a bit cliche, but I feel that remaining hopeful and doing your best to stay positive is a very important part of healing. So that's what I plan to do and I am looking forward to getting out on the trail again soon. More videos to come.

I appreciate that. Chronic illnesses are tough... watched my father battle a chronic auto-immune disease all through growing up that ultimately took him. Feels strange to be dealing with some of the same themes in my life, but the struggle can be a blessing in disguise sometimes...I know it sounds cliche, but I find that it causes me to appreciate "little things" that I used to take for granted...guess things get called cliche for a reason...because there is a lot of truth to it. I wish you and your loved ones that are dealing with illness as well all the best and I hope that you can get out to those beautiful TN mountains soon -Loch

Thank you Steve for making this video, I know it was hard to do but it will help alot of people I'm sure. I also have an autoimmune disease with my thyroid and it's very interesting that you mentioned Vitamin D being low because mine is low alot as well. I saw a video that mentioned that they think there is a connection with autoimmune diseases and low vitamin D levels. I personally felt so much better when my levels were normal and now I'm feeling crappy again when they are low again, so there may be something to it. I will keep praying for you, please keep me in your prayers as well. God bless you and your family and keep making videos, I enjoy the hikes that I can't do but at least I can see them through your channel.

Thanks Cici, ya I am not gonna lie, it was kind of a tough video to make..it's actually kind of ironic that I have a KZbin channel through which potentially millions (or the few hundred that regularly follow hehe) of people can watch the videos, I am actually quite the private person and pretty hermit like hehe...so it kind of even surprises me that I would post videos sometimes...but I really enjoy the video format and love interacting with all of the folks who make up this little community that we have over here at MSW. It's my hope that someone who is struggling with similar MS symptoms will find some encouragement from my particular story... I find hope to be absolutely essential in moving forward...and sometimes it's that little shred of hope that gets us to the next day, the next hour, the next minute...if it serves that purpose for even one person than I think a little discomfort on my part is totally worth it. The vitamin D issue is definitely on my radar, and I suspect that there is something to it. I actually was doing a bit of research about it last night. So glad that you enjoy the hikes...I've had a few folks tell me that it allows them to more or less take a virtual hike and still enjoy the outdoors through this medium even if they can't physically get out there, which I feel honored to be able to be part of. I know that I have found a lot of solace in "virtual hikes" through youtube while I have been laid up in bed, so I also reap those benefits at times at well. I hope that you feel well again soon :) Thank you again for your kind words of encouragement and for sticking with the channel. I truly appreciate it. -Loch

@@MossStoneWoodlore Thank you for your response. I am really a shy person too and it takes alot for me to even post comments as well, but I feel that God gives me courage when it involves helping others, and I see he does the same for you. Keep moving forward and God will lead the way and give you the answers you are seeking, just keep him first in your life, that's the only thing that has brought me peace through all these trials. Psalms 34:19 says it perfectly, "Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all." Jesus is coming soon and there will be no more pain, sorrow, or death (Rev. 21). Take care :-)

Too much plaa plaa 😉 I just give this as a little hint, not critique as I think that in an another mindset I would have appreciated the whole video and description of life lived with ms more. I might come back later, but I was really looking for the idea how the double vision really looks like! Well, I am sure that there is more different type of visual disturbances. I will keep reseaching. I save your video. Sending much love to you!!! 💕💗💖💕💕💖💛💕💖💗

I'm so sorry that you are experiencing double vision. It was one of the scariest things that I have had to go through. My vision did go back to normal though so there is hope! One thing I would recommend getting checked is your vitamin D levels. My levels were very low. I started taking 10,000 IU's a day and was able to bring my levels back up to the normal range. I currently am not on any medication. So far I have been managing my MS by only taking vitamin D, some pro-biotics and managing my stress levels. Ever since I started taking the vitamin D though my flare ups have dramatically decreased. Not saying that it's some silver bullet but it might be worth a shot for you as well. I really hope that your vision returns to normal soon. Take it a day at a time...and hour at a time... and remember that there is always hope!

Hi Chelsea, sorry for taking a few days to reply, I was out on a backpacking trip with my wife and just got back. Hopefully that in itself will give you some hope!...it was last October that I was in the hospital for the double vision and since then I have not had a single episode of double vision. I have been working as normal and out climbing mountains and backpacking on the weekends, so there is hope! I can definitely empathize with what you are going through right now...That is why I decided to make that video... I remember that sinking feeling when I was first diagnosed with MS and how uncertain it made me feel. When doctors are telling you that you have these things called "lesions" on your brain, it can really freak you out. But just know that just because you might get diagnosed with MS, that doesn't necessarily mean that everything in your life is going to change for the worse. MS can affect people in a wide variety of ways and those of us with MS can experience symptoms in different ways and in varying degrees. Yes there is always the possibility that it can become more challenging, but the main thing to remember is to just take it a day at a time. Everyone has challenges in life to overcome, whether it be something like MS, or another illness, or a difficult family situation etc., but just because we go through these tough things in life, it doesn't mean that our identity has to be defined by them in a negative way. On the contrary, we can choose, to thrive in situations like this. Not trying to sugar coat it, it's definitely tough at times, but I am firm believer in trying to remain positive as much as we can. On a practical note, if the double vision lasts for a bit, I can say that getting a pair of glasses with one of the frames frosted helped me a ton, maybe they would help you too?...I had to have them redo the frosted lens once though because the first pair that they made me they messed up... I could still kinda see through it, which did not work at all. So if you have them make you up a pair, have them make sure the lens is completely frosted and only allows light through but does not allow you to make out any images with that one eye. Being able to keep that eye open and allow light to hit it will help relax both eyes. It felt so much better when I got the glasses made up. Because before that, constantly having to keep one eye shut gave me a lot of eye strain and headaches. My eyesight actually returned to normal after a few days of wearing them...and almost as suddenly as it started, within in a few hours of when the intensity of the double vision began to subside, it returned to normal. I think being able to keep both eyes open and have a little peripheral vision on the side of the eye that was covered helped in the recovery process, maybe it helped feed my brain some info that it needed to more or less remap the connection etc?. Also, everyone and their brother is going to have an opinion on what is going to be right path of treatment for you...my advice is to take it all in, but what worked for them might not work for you (including my advice). Find what works for you and don't stress out too much if it takes a while to find out what that is. I am currently not on any medication, I have been dealing with my MS through a combination of a restricted diet (almost no processed sugar, no red meat, no dairy) and making sure I get plenty of exercise outdoors which keeps my stress levels in check. Also my vitamin D levels were really low, so I have been taking 10,000 iu's a day which got my levels up. There is a lot of research going on right now that suggests that low vitamin D levels can contribute to MS. Time will only tell if my diet, exercise and vitamin D regiment will be enough to keep my flares at bay, but so far so good. I only been having mini flares that last 48 hours or so every few months, where I experience some tingling in my face and limbs along with feeling really spaced out and tired. But the flares usually go away in a few days. Anyways, sorry for the wall of text (youtube is being weird tonight and not allowing me to make new paragraphs :-/), but I just wanted to respond with something more than just a few lines and let you know that there are others out there that have gone through this and most importantly that there is hope! Never lose hope! Let me know how things work out for you and feel free to reach out and ask me any questions. I'd be happy to help wherever I can. Praying for you.

Moss Stone Woodlore hi I have a question about MS .. I have been having flare ups since I was 19 and I’m now 23. Also I’ve been having a lot of vision disturbances in terms of blindness in 1 eye for months, to double vision. This is actually my second time experiencing double vision and it’s very intense when I look to my right. I look a tad bit cock eyed when I look straight or slightly to my right. It’s making me very insecure 😟 I wanted to know and I sound absolutely crazy for asking but do you think my eyes will straighten out it’s been 2 weeks. I’m more so concerned about being cockeyed. And yes I also have 20 20 and have to cover only one eye. I’m scared every time this happens. I don’t have a doctors appointment anytime soon. Thank u so much for the info. I feel like I’m rambling becuz I’m panicking.

Just started Ocrevus, supposed to be the "latest thing". Costs about $130,000 a year. My health insurance costs $18,000 a year. I prefer to just worry about wellness, rather than money. Universal healthcare is the only answer. You're not alone, Randy.

I hadn't heard of Ocrevus. I am very wary of the medications they are advising me to take...I am still going to do a lot of research before I start taking any...and wow, that's criminally expensive...makes me sick that big pharma profits like that off of folks illnesses... I am all about paying a fair price for a product that someone develops and distributes, but that is pure greed, plain and simple.

I'm here Steve. Commented before and I have MS as well. I have all sorts of healthcare issues as well. It's like "salt in the wound" when I have to deal with insurance, drug prices, and our totally screwed up healthcare system. You are, or probably will experience the the same. Vote for Progressive candidates in Nov., cause universal health care is the only answer. None of us know when life will throw us a healthcare catastrophe. It's enough to deal with illness, we should not have to worry about financial catastrophe as well. I'm with you and it's sad but MS really sucks. Can't say all I want, because Ms took the use of my hands. Typing is hard. Wishing you the best. Tough road ahead. Randy Graves

Thanks for detailed comment Randy, I know that is must have taken a lot of effort to type all of that out. Ya I agree that the healthcare system definitely needs a lot of work. On a positive note, I currently have a really good insurance policy and we already met our deductible during the past year so, most of this flare up should be covered. Still waiting on some more info. Thanks for checking in and I hope that you find some peace amidst the craziness that is MS. Wishing you the best as well friend. -Loch
