Dr. Jonathan Brendefur talks about the fourth multiplication strategy, which is called compensation. This strategy can be used to make multiplication easier by rounding numbers up or down to numbers that are easier to multiply.
For example, to multiply 8 and 9, you could round 9 up to 10. Then, you would multiply 8 x 10 to get 80. Finally, you would subtract the extra amount that you rounded up by (8 x 1) to get 72.
