Multiply or Release - Boss Battle 7 - Santa Special

In this boss battle: Green, Yellow, Purple, Orange and Red face off against Santa.
Which team will win? Which colours will remain?
Rules:
- Players receive an additional marble every 60 seconds. The boss receives an additional marble every 30 seconds.
- Boss releases a burst shot instead of charged shot. The base size is 2. If the charge amount is greater than 10, shot size is 3 and drains 2 charge instead of 1. If charge amount is greater than 100, size is 4 and drains 3 charge, and similarly for each multiple of 10. Shots colliding will combine.
- Large shots decay 0.25% of their mass every second.
If you're new to Multiply or Release, it is a physics-based game that is played automatically by the computer.
Marbles on the sides of the map run through a track repeatedly to enter either the Multiply or Release triggers.
When entering the Multiply trigger, that player's current shot strength number is doubled. It starts at 1, doubles to 2, then 4, and so on.
When entering the Release trigger, the current shot is fired.
When a shot travels through the grid in the centre, if it enters a block belonging to an opposing colour it will change that block to its own colour and reduce its current number by one. Thus the number is how many blocks on the grid a shot will convert.
If a shot enters a player's cannon (the small white square around each player), that player is eliminated.

I was believing in the team for most of the time. They had a couple of good shots too (several marbles that the burst couldn't really affect were heading towards Santa), but they always sabotaged themselves with smaller, but still relevant shots that threw their massive ones off the course.

idea: multiply or realease but there are 2 multiply buttons, the first multiplys the number of shots in a burst and the secound multiplies the value of said shots.

15k subs is approaching, can you make a 15k x 15k map? That is huge, so maybe add 2 “decision marbles” every minute instead of one, or some other change that makes it so that it doesn’t take 5 years

I made an attempt at that a while back, unfortunately it isn't as simple as just bumping up the numbers, I need to build some new tech to make it possible. Broadly I'm looking at two possible solutions: save the map state as a bunch of bitmaps and read/write from disk instead of memory; or learn how to make shaders and code the whole game in the shader itself

The presents are obstacles with 500 hit points - each hit reduces the number. Similar to older videos

@@lostmarbles2d I feel like they should "belong to" Santa - not affecting his shots, but also not harmed by them (or even consume his shots for regen). To opponent shots, they'd still act as obstacles.

Just a themed obstacle. I was thinking of making some powerups that are received as "gifts" when the presents are opened, but I wanted this video out soon. The reason for there being an obstacle at all is to protect the boss from side attacks

Lost Marbles, more like Lost Shots.... There were parts where Santa's shots would just freeze in place. I know why, it's because the shot is seeing two bases that it can potentially collide to, since shots slow down while approaching them. Hopefully this bug gets fixed in future boss battles!

The clumps aren't all that great for defence, and they degrade over time. Combining this with the slowdown mechanic, it seems to me as though Santa had the advantage.

The "slow down while approaching enemy cannon" feature works by moving balls backwards according to a percentage of their speed - I should probably sync this with the physics time scale so that it doesn't look so weird!

This one wasn't fun, Santa had too many advantages. All of his shots would always color something, while all the other colors could shoot into their own field and just start losing numbers. Their shots slowed to a crawl if it actually made it into the white, meaning Santa's attacks had insane amounts of time to redirect it. And even Santa's 18 bullets could deflect a 500 ball. It was poorly executed, I never believed the other team had a chance.
