@@gorsignups Guy: I currently use a Motif as my master keyboard, and that sequencer has 16 sections of 16 parts, all of which have a measure limit of 99: the Fantom has 8 sections of 16 parts, with a 32 measure limit for all sections: this is quite a difference..Also: Fantom only allows couple of time signatures, whereas, Motif, has every single time signature there is....you see, when you are creating traditional ( pop hits of the 60s -90s ) music, for the most part, you need all that extra parts and measure, etc.....when you are doing the type of sequencer songs that you see on most demo videos of the Fantom, there are endless repeatable patterns, so, looping supersedes number of measures....

@@gorsignups update on this: through various software versions, Roland has doubled the amount of measures per pattern, and most importantly, they now allow all possible time signatures.....this is a major improvement. I have a Fantom 88 key ordered through my local Guitar Center. It should be in sometime in January, possibly February. Being the fact that Roland is behind in getting new Fantoms out to stores on a regular basis, the ones that do get shipped are most likely quite new in being built. Now with that being said, when I get mine in early 2023, will the newer ones come with the new, updated version already installed out of the box, or will I get an original version and have to update it myself?

Hello Thank you for the very educational presentation of this new version 2.0! I have several important questions for you: 1: Apparently, it is possible to correct the "false notes" in the sequencer; Is that true? And is this possible in all Fantom recording modes? (all tracks , of course !) 2: Also, can I record a 8-minute song (..) with a single or a layer ? (So by directly recording what I play in the sequencer from a chosen sound, as I do with my Kronos..) ? 3: On the synths I already have, I create MY sounds; with the Fantom, is there enough space to memorize sounds that I will create? (single, layers..) 4: Are there other sound banks for the Fantom? If, where? Thank you for answering me whenever you want. I don't want to buy the Fantom without these details. With respect. I doubt it will have linear sequencing anytime soon as this generation is more used to Clip based sequencing. My hope is that they will extend the limit from 32 bars to some useful value. As for your mulitsamples I doubt it will work as the New fantom has a different sound file format. If you can make it into a Soundfont format then the converter which Mark told is coming might help.

What is everyone's opinion on Fantom 7 or 8. My current needs are at home recording, also using VSTs, but would eventually like to get back into playing live. Would lugging Fantom 8 to gigs be best, or a Fantom 7, then have an 88 MIDI controller for piano sounds from the Fantom? I assume that can be done? Have a full 88 MIDI controller, assign it to Grand Piano, and leave it be, and then use the Fantom 7 itself for all my synth while live playing? Or should I go with an 88, and use a 76-MIDI controller for all my synth sounds? I currently have a Korg Triton LE 88 and Roland Juno-Stage. I would lug both to live gigs all the time, so keyboard weight is not an issue. Pain in the ass? Yes, but not an issue.
@ablesam4 жыл бұрын
I will give you a few opinions that might benefit as options. 1. The Fantom 8 is 28 kg and almost 10 kg more than your Triton le. So my first opinion would be buying a Fantom 7 and using the Triton as a Midi controller and also a sound source for your gigs. 2. The Fantom 8 has a ivory/ebony feel that makes playing it a lot of fun. Also the action is amazing as it is not too heavy but not too light. Somewhere in the middle I'd say. So if you want excellent piano action and do not worry about weight, then you can go for the Fantom 8. 3. Buy a Fantom 7 and find a midi controller with excellent action (and options) and use it with the Fantom. It would be also good if the midi controller in bus powered. But not necessarily.
@KevboKev4 жыл бұрын
@@ablesam Thank you very much for your thoughts on this. I know no one can decide my final decision for me, but I like getting others' perspectives on these matters. Yes, the Triton LE with the case I have makes it weight close to 70 lbs. I wonder how 86 lbs would feel when playing LIVE. However, with COVID, and no sign of things getting back to normal, I'm not sure I will be gigging anytime soon. I also have two small children, one very sickly, so it may be a good five years until I'm out playing again, at least! I really do want the feel of a better weighted keybed than then Triton LE offers. I really liked the feel of the Roland Fantom G8 keybed, so I'd imagine the Fantom 8 feels just as great, if not better. My other thought, similar to your option 3 was getting a Fantom 7, but then also getting the Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol s88 mkii as my MIDI controller. I also use Kontakt here in my home studio a lot with different VSTs, so I thought that would be a nice one to have. However, I guess that would only really be relevant if I ever plan on playing out again. I'm trying to debate what would be a bigger pain in the butt: 1) Lugging all the heavy equipment if I do play out if I got a Fantom 8, or 2) Having to continually route the sounds I want from the Fantom down to my MIDI controller just while playing at home. It's probably easier than I'm making it out to be, but man, so many thoughts. It would be more expensive to buy the Fantom 7 and the S88 mkii over just getting the Fantom 8. My Juno-Stage has excellent synth action, and I love playing leads on it, so I can always use that as my MIDI controller for synths. Arrrggggggghhhhhh.......so much to think about! haha But you gave me some good thoughts to think about, too, so thank for you that. :-)

After confirming that the message "Update (board1) End..." has been displayed, detach the USB flash memory without turning off the power. * Do not turn off the power. Connect the USB flash memory to any one of the EXT DEVICE jacks (1, 2, or 3). The message "Running Update..." appears at the bottom of the display, and the update starts again. * The update requires about 5 minutes. After confirming that the message "Update (board2) End..." has been displayed, turn off the power. Detach the USB Memory from the FANTOM-6 / FANTOM-7 / FANTOM-8. This completes the update operation. The new system program runs at the next startup. Follow the procedure for verifying the version to verify that the version has been updated.

To my humble opinion, these Fantoms priority is more on features than it is on usability and sound quality. I own a Fantom G7 which has an excellent built-in sequencer which allows me to record linear, like a musician would like to do. Making patterns and having to organize them into order?? It doesn't make sense to me. Who makes music that way? Also, knowing Roland a little, they never update to a mature product. The FantomG is a nice workstation, but Roland failed to update the firmware to fix serious issues. They just abandon the product. For instance, midi-automation on audio tracks just isn't there. And the mixer lacks the 'solo' feature, where you can mute all but one track. While this was an existing feature on there older Fantom X. Same with the Integra-7. There are some serious issues with this module, but Roland just won't address them. I would think twice before purchasing this Fantom, knowing that Roland will let you down eventually and abandon the product.

Fantom has huge problems with polyphony especially when you combine multiple layers. Also you can’t layer multiple V-piano sounds and the driver crashes constantly in Ableton.

Roland is that hard to put multisampling option when roland came out first time. No first you must wait for 1 jear for f..ing update. SO STUPID.

we get stuck with presets that need to be reworked, needlessly limited user patch memory, lo-fi waveforms for all those patches, and I assume the on-board post-effects are the same from FA and Juno-DS, which sound old and dated

Are you actually going to pretend that those single sampled guitar notes (badly played, I might add :-) were used to "create" that funky distorted guitar patch that was heavily effected? Come on.... fess up.... no way....

Pierrot ps : this com is very serious .

1) Yes this is possible. You can delete unwanted notes using the piano roll or the microscopic editor. 2) This is possible within a Scene. If you are familiar with a clip based sequencer. Create an Intro, a verse, a chorus and an ending. On the Kronos I believe you would press 'Enter' and 'Record' to capture a quick idea. Fantom is modless so you would have to press pattern, select your zone and press record. You can use step record and Tr-Rec as recording options other than linear. 3) Yes you can save customized tones in the user bank. It could be a customized Zen-core, V-piano, Supernatural Or Drum kit tone. If you want to save a customized layer I would recommend saving it to a Scene. 4) Yes, on Roland Cloud. Download the application on your PC or Mac and create an account if you don't have one. Over there go to 'Hardware' (on the right side) and select Fantom and download any one of the Wave Expansions or Supernatural Engines. There are sound packs created by world leading artists using the Zen core engine which costs . 99 cents per pack. Also the Wave Expansions and Supernatural Engines are free unlike the sound packs.

@@ablesam Thank you very much for your answers that informed me well. 1: In general, when I create songs on my Kronos, I improvise, not counting the time (in minutes) or the number of measurements. Now I believe that with the Fantom we can not exceed 32 measures per scene..? It's very little. On the Kronos, I choose a sound (program or combination), I put it in the sequencer, then I press "record and play" and finally I play in total freedom of time and expression (live). Do you think that with Fantom this is possible? 2: When I'll create single or layers, will there be enough space to put them in memory in fantom's internal hard drive? (how many Gigas?) Or on a USB stick? 3: Finally, if I buy additional sounds, where will they go? In another internal sound bank? On a USB stick? Thanks again for your new answers. Don't worry about it! I won't send you questions every day! With respect. Pierrot

@@PierreSIBANARCO 1) I don't believe this is possible with the Fantom as you are using the traditional linear recording and fantom uses the clip based recording which is similar but with limitations. I believe your Kronos is more suitable for your kind of use of a sequencer. 2) Fantom has 512 scenes to choose from. As for user tones I may have to refer the manual. As for the storage in gigabytes I have absolutely no idea, as this is not something Roland have given information about. As for the USB stick it depends on its storage. Hope Roland updates the number of scenes to 750-1200 since 512 is kind of limiting. 3) kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKTVaoSmnNaao6M Hopefully this will help. It's from their product support.

@@ablesam Thank you very much for your serious and documented answers. I appreciate that. So I'll think and, if possible, test this Fantom in a store. I also think that the fantom sequencer is not really appropriate for my mode of creation. But I also think it's not totally impossible! Just adapt to new recording technologies, that's all. Thank you again and very cordially. ps : thank you for the link !
