Hi Myron, you mentioned in this video that someone should write a poem about Gideon - because it rhymed with Midian... I took you up on that challenge. (See Below) The Sword of the Lord and of Gideon We sheltered in the clefts and caves Those strongholds didn’t ease our fear Amalekites and Midianites Did pillage our crops and flocks and gear Our foes had camels, livestock, tents In number, like a swarm of locusts Invaded, ravaged, we cried out And to the Lord returned our focus In winepress wheat, I threshed, and hid Because the enemy was strong Before I knew God’s plan for me And found to live in fear was wrong Then came an angel of the Lord To me. (Who, me? I’m weak; the least!) Said “Mighty man of valor, go!” The more he spoke, my faith increased He said, “Go in the strength you have Save Israel from Midian’s hand.” I offered God a sacrifice Then went, still weak to understand. And timid as I’d always been I tore Baal’s altar down that night The townsmen said that I should die My dad appeased the crowd uptight My stomach was in knots, and yet God’s word would keep my knees from knocking Though scared, I sent out messengers And soon the army started flocking I know I shouldn’t question God But still I asked Him for a sign To wet a fleece and dry a fleece As proof it was a word Divine And just when I felt confident, “You have too many men.” God said it; My army six times smaller, though Too big for God to get the credit Must trust when His ways don’t make sense Go take them to the water then Regard the way they lap it up, God cut all save three hundred men! That night God said, “Get up, attack! But if unsure and feeling dread, Just take your servant to their camp You’ll be encouraged by what’s said.” The enemy revealed his dream A loaf laid waste, none left to stand “Must be the sword of Gideon; God giving us into his hands!” We had no real weapons, but It didn’t matter to my Lord Their dream of wreckage, it would come And by the son of Joash’s Sword. “To each a pitcher and a torch, A trumpet for the other hand; Surround the camp, all `long the edge Do like I do on my command.” With torches lit in pitchers hid, We lurked in the dark of Midian Blast the light, blow trumpets and shout “The sword of the Lord and of Gideon”! As each of us held his position Our enemies `visioned us dead But in a freak show of perdition They turned on each other instead! If you find yourself in a pinch You’ll win more battles, take more ground Not giving that Old Scratch an inch Obey God, sans fear. You’re not bound! So when the next foe must be fought Pay no mind to their size or claim. There’s no need to be overwrought; You’ve got that Sword, in Jesus’ Name! © Katherine Norland 2024

My husband and I were in Costa Rica sitting on our veranda reading a book one day. Thats when the Lord asked me, “What are you most afraid of?” I couldn’t think of anything else but BATS. He said, “Look up”. In broad daylight there was a baby bat, hanging upside down, two inches above my husbands head. 😮 That lesson embedded the words, “I did not give you a spirit of fear, but of power and of sound mind.” Never again have I allowed fear to control me.
