Nice explanation. Many teachers often provide only the definition without any real examples. This video has it all.

I think this is like a quick recap video and should not be used to understand the concept. I would use the official book and use Analyst Prep videos to do final review before exam.

when calculating a weighted sum of random variables 23:32, why do we square the weight?

Bill, your videos are brilliant, I dont know about everyone else who watches but certianly far more interesting than simply reading notes. I do have one question however, when learning objectives read....Explain, Define this is to be treated differently than any learning objectives that read Compute. So that a candidate should expect that they may need to memorise formulas for those LO that read as Compute whereas not for Explain or Define. Is my undertdsnding correct? Thanks

Hi, Ben. Great question, indeed. GARP is not very consistent with those learning objectives. Usually, when it says "define," there should not be calculations. "Explain" might lead to some calculations. Here is another example: In Quantitative Analysis Chapter 3 - Common Univariate Random Variables, the first learning objective is "Distinguish the key properties among the following distributions: uniform distribution, Bernoulli distribution, Binomial distribution, Poisson distribution, normal distribution, lognormal distribution, Chi-squared distribution, Student’s t, and F-distributions, and identify common occurrences of each distribution." However, there have been calculation questions on GARP practice exams even though the learning objective is simply "distinguish." Therefore, I would recommend you learn how to do most calculations, even when the command word is not "Compute." I hope this helps. Let us know if you have any further questions.

@@analystprep Thanks Bill, its what I expected as well. I suspect that GARP has lost ist way somewhat with these LO. Anyway, again your videos are really a valuable addition to learning the FRM, well done.
