You have got to set boundaries with family and sending your spouse to “lay down the law” with your family or saying things like that’s what my “husband/wife wants” instead of this is what I/We want comes off as cowardly. It takes time and effort to establish a relationship/mutual respect to get to the point where your spouse can “lay down the law” without your family feeling uncomfortable about it but you have to take the lead in facilitating that.
