I don't make her do anything... she does this by choice. Infact, she's the one telling me to help her make these videos. I spend the time obtaining and setting up the operating systems followed by editing, rendering, compressing and uploading the videos to youtube. It takes 20 minutes of her time and about 2 hours of my time for each of these videos. She does the videos because she likes all the nice comments she gets as well as looking at the variety of operating systems.

Good video. Dianna is doing good on such a hot day. I see that you have the ocean in the background. Do a video of her running and playing on the beach! I love her!
@OsFirstTimer12 жыл бұрын
Initially when we began making the videos, the tasks slightly changed in the first 3 videos and people complained saying I should keep the tasks consistent in order to fairly test each system, so for consistency I kept the questions the same. At the end of each video if we have enough time I give her the task of exploring the operating system which adds variety and discovers new and interesting things; I may here add in an extra task or 2, in fact I will make a conscious effort to do this now.

I guess so. She knows linux is ultra customizable especially after our Debian video. She however doesn't require that degree of customization to the point of deciding how many pixels the height of a taskbar is or the exact 0.0001 degree of friction or force a wobbly window shakes at. Once thing is for certain though... She prefers most linux distros to windows 8.

I can code in Visual Basic. Infact check out "histacom". Just type in histacom on youtube. It's an operating system time travel game that I made. You travel through time trying different operating systems and hacking your way to the time travel software. As for coding a real bootable operating system no way... I can make a desktop environment for windows though ;)

I generally use Xubuntu 12.04.3 only for the LTS, but this version is good too.

Yeah, I would recommend that too. The reason for that is that Mint almost never needs you to use the Terminal to install stuff.

I've been a windows user for years. My older brother was ALWAYS instsalling Linux distos on his computers. I got use to seeing how they work. I got Xubuntu and knew how to work it as soon as the desktop loaded up without any guides or help at all. I only had trouble with installing 3rd party packages but I even learned that with the help from the web. Change is scary but you learn to adjust.

Well it's just the d drive in my computer. I can access it from windows since it is an Internal hard drive. Nothing is "super private" about it. Infact I would have no problem with it being viewed by others. The problem however is it is not done professionally. It's just a bunch of videos I make at random times of the day talking about random stuff. For example back in 2008 I was talking about windows 7 being in development and emulating operating systems on my computer for the first time.

I like what you're doing here & i understand you're making Diana try default setups of any OS. Just a remark about linux distros though: you know very well linux is all about freedom of choice. I'd like to see her reaction after final thoughts when you show her how *buntu can look like XP/7/Mac in just a couple clicks. She never put the mouse at the bottom to see the autohide panel. You could haved removed it, put Start in front of the logo, set top panel to bottom, etc ... keep it up mate

I record what I call "massive archive" which consists of a video log of almost everyday of my life since may 12th 2008. Currently it's 500 gb and I store it on my 1tb hard drive. Massive archive currently has 1,357 videos of myself, my family and the place I live. 99.9% of the videos are ones I have recorded myself while maybe 5-10 of them are videos I found online that interested me. This is a personal archive and I have not and will not upload it anywhere lol ;)

As an Xfce user for several years. I would like to point out, that it is really customizable. And that is the basic point in all of linux world really. I started using linux in 2005 And love xfce for not changing the way gnome did. It is a trusty DE which treats new features, and modernization in a gradual way. A bit like Windows 95 - Windows 7. . You can also plug in-out things that you like, or do not like. And the panel is actually quite powerful on features. But these are the things that can not really affect a first-timers view in a positive way.
@AuroraNemoia10 жыл бұрын
I love xfce like, a whole lot. I don't know how I'd live without it. it is indeed extremely customizable, still remember myself trying to patch system files in win7 derping around to ake it look at least a little bit cool.

You could easily have a mac-like "dock" with Xubuntu as well :-) One of the cool features in XFCE is definitely the customization. Now, all GNU/Linux systems and their desktops are very customizable, but it's really easy to do in XFCE, which is very nice, imo. I absolutely love my Xubuntu system, imo it's pretty much as flawless as they come. Fast, clean, pretty and customizable, exactly what I'm looking for in a Desktop Environment. It was very easy for me to leave Windows forever with Xubuntu.
