Indeed it is the Gateway of India. However it was not built for the first visit of Queen Elizabeth II to India in 1961. It was built to commemorate the 1911 visit of the Queen's grandparents, King George V and his consort, Queen Mary for their coronation as Emperor and Empress of India in Delhi. The Gateway was completed in 1924, during the reign of King Emperor George, two years before Queen Elizabeth was born.
