If we try to recall, Ganpati festival was started by Lokmanya Tilak because people were not allowed to come together in crowds at that time and so brining sarvajanik ganpati gave a reason for everyone to meet at one place so that they can discuss on the further plans. But why are we still doing it today? Do we even think today before doing anything? Ganpati festival is not given in any shastras that for 10 days we should bring home the idol of Ganesha and bring Gauri and then do the visarjan, who decided all this? Please please understand this is all just a big business nowadays, it's a huge industry!! According to the recent report of Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), this year Ganpati festival was anticipated to make a business of Rs. 25,000 crores !! we bring sarvajanik Ganpatis !! I agree that devotees have their feelings attached to Ganpati, I am not denying that, but understand they are taking benefit of this very faith of the people and earning money out of it. Do you really think these huge big pandals are made to support people's faith? Why do we give a blind eye even after seeing that- - It's all money show-off - A way of turning black money into white - Drunk dj parties in the visarjan (we don't even know how many molestation cases occur right during or after the visarjan) - Noise pollution with crackers and dhols; not thinking about children, elderly people, patients (I have seen people playing drums right outside a hospital; imagine if you have someone from your own family inside the hospital at such times, what would you do? Even the police are not able to stop them !)or even birds and animals for that matter. Why do these pet - lovers don't raise a voice over here? - And at the end of 10 days, literally throw this Ganpatiji's idol in water? Why do all those people who proudly call themselves 'Sanatani' go blind at this? Is this what our dharma teaches us? Please pause and think, are we going in the right direction with all this? This information that I have got by reading Srimad Bhagwat Gita with the help of my Gurus, has helped me get a better perspective at life and thus thought would help others as well, so sharing this without any selfish motive and for the betterment of everyone, because even if one person changes their perspective, we will slowly but gradually definitely move towards making a better society for our coming generations ! I agree.. We all know what happens behind the curtains of Ganpati pandals, people pulling night outs, drinking and playing cards; think of those women in their houses whose son or husband doesn't take responsibility of the family but instead goes out and does this kind of timepass in the name of Ganpati festival ! I have myself seen, a 60-65 yrs old man, forcefully making young 9-10 yrs old boys drink alcohol at the time of visarjan ! Is this what you call bhakti ?? We should all learn now atleast after watching the reality of the Lalbaugcha Raja Ganpati. I humbly request you to understand, it is only and only we people who are giving them encouragement by giving them money in the name of vargani for all these things. If everyone stops giving money they won't be able to do these things and it will ultimately die off. And no, you won't be incurring any sin if you deny giving money for such things, because that Param Pavitra Paramatma just requires your pure single-pointed भक्ति , your pure भाव nothing else. I urge everyone to read the scriptures, read Srimad Bhagwat Gita, wherein all such reality is precisely written, so that nobody can fool us in the name of dharma or bhakti. In Srimad Bhagwat Gita, there's an entire adhyay (12th adhyay - Bhakti-yog) on what is bhakti and what kind of bhaktas are beloved by him! Also, in shlok 14 of adhyay 8 - अनन्यचेता: सततं यो मां स्मरति नित्यश: | तस्याहं सुलभ: पार्थ नित्ययुक्तस्य योगिन: || Sri Krishna declares, "That for anyone who remembers me with single pointed faith, I am easily attainable to them." Then why do we require such illusionary things just to distract our minds in the name of bhakti? High time we open our eyes and see the reality and change! If everyone feels the need to bring a new Ganpati idol every year, it clearly means you don't have faith on the Ganpati which is already there in your house, is that just a show - piece then?
