Lyrics
Obie Trice
Real name no gimmicks
Two trailer park girls go 'round the outside
'Round the outside, 'round the outside
Two trailer park girls go 'round the outside
'Round the outside, 'round the outside
Guess who's back, back again
Shady's back, tell a friend
Guess who's back, guess who's back?
Guess who's back, guess who's back?
Guess who's back, guess who's back?
Guess who's back?
I've created a monster, 'cause nobody wants to see Marshall no more
They want Shady, I'm chopped liver
Well if you want Shady, this is what I'll give ya
A little bit of weed mixed with some hard liquor
Some vodka that'll jump start my heart quicker
Then a shock when I get shocked at the hospital
By the doctor when I'm not cooperating
When I'm rocking the table while he's operating (hey)
You waited this long to stop debating
'Cause I'm back, I'm on the rag and ovulating
I know-that you got a job, Ms. Cheney
But your husband's heart problem's complicating
So the FCC won't let me be or let me be me so let me see
They tried to shut me down on MTV
But it feels so empty without me
So come on and dip, bum on your lips
Fuck that, cum on your lips and some on your tits
And get ready 'cause this shit's about to get heavy
I just settled all my lawsuits, "Fuck you, Debbie!"
Now this looks like a job for me
So everybody just follow me
'Cause we need a little controversy
'Cause it feels so empty without me
I said, this looks like a job for me
So everybody just follow me
'Cause we need a little controversy
'Cause it feels so empty without me
Little hellions kids feeling rebellious
Embarrassed, their parents still listen to Elvis
They start feeling like prison is helpless
'Til someone comes along on a mission and yells "Bitch!"
A visionary, vision is scary
Could start a revolution, pollutin' the air waves, a rebel
So just let me revel and bask
In the fact that I got everyone kissing my ass
And it's a disaster, such a catastrophe
For you to see so damn much of my ass you ask for me
Well I'm back, nana-na nana-na kshh
Fix your bent antenna, tune it in and then I'm gonna enter in up
Under your skin like a splinter
The center of attention back for the winter
I'm interesting, the best thing since wrestling
Infesting in your kids ears and nesting
"Testing attention please"
Feel the tension soon as someone mentions me
Here's my ten cents, my two cents is free
A nuisance, who sent, you sent for me?
Now this looks like a job for me
So everybody just follow me
'Cause we need a little controversy
'Cause it feels so empty without me
I said, this looks like a job for me
So everybody just follow me
'Cause we need a little controversy
'Cause it feels so empty without me

"nobody listens to techno" He's talking about this 90's "techno/electronica-ish" artist called Moby. Before that he said Chris Kirpatrick. Hes one of the dudes from the boy band N'Sync. And before that, he mentioned Mrs. Cheney. Dick Cheney was George Bush Jr.'s right hand man. One thing about Eminem in the 90's and early 00's, he went after everyone. Boy bands, rock bands, other rap artists, politicians, the media. That's why he's always been one of a kind.

And yes, at the time, he well earned comparing himself to Elvis. Unlike Elvis, however, he acknowledged that he was doing black music. He was so skilled that he was right at the cookout and no one complained. The 'controversy' was his lyrics. Because it was a white guy rapping, more white kids were listening and more white parents were complaining. It had nothing to do with him comparing himself to anyone. Just like today, anyone tried to come for him got slaughtered.
@joeydeaconblues
@joeydeaconblues 2 жыл бұрын
There"s so much media today it's hard to compare or comprehend how big eminem was when this came out. There wasn't a lot of cross over between fans of different genres. But eminem was a hit on the hip hop stations, the rap stations, the punk stations, the rock statitions and all the equivalent clubs. He was literally everywhere for a while. Even the senate was discussing him. At one point the ftc was considering a blanket ban on him by name. It would have been an actual American law banning one individual from distributing his music. It got that mental. Eminem is a legend and a goat but he'll never be as big as he was. He was once the global zeitgeist. And arguably the most famous man on the planet at the time.

Everyone was trying to stop him, mother groups appeared on every talk show across the country, saying he was too vulgar for the public, his mother was suing him, along with every Christian group, the fcc tried to ban his videos and his music. It was a really hard time for him, but he didn't stop fighting and eventually he settled his personal lawsuits and artistic freedom won out! And he's still at the top of his game. Thanks for the reaction Jojo!

You know, I kind of miss the days when the biggest controversy surrounding Em's name was the topics he raps about. Today, it's ONLY about being a GOAT or if he belongs in Hip-Hop due to skin color. I mean, I LOVE that the "GOAT conversation" happens and all. But really? After all this time, countless number 1 singles, multi-diamond sells, pumping out one massive beat as a producer after another, signing one of the biggest names in Rap for the last 25 years (50cent) and you want to NOW debate if he should be in Hip-Hop due to skin color? I would much rather argue for 6 days over his topics than spend 6 seconds arguing with some idiot over Em's skin color.

The different kind of Em you talk about are his "personalities" also known as Eminem, Slim Shady (the one on this track) and Marshall. Im not including the Em that was heavily using accents, which Im pretty sure was also Shady. Shady is def my favourite side of Em, Shady raps with immaculate cadence and can find the craziest pockets because he cares less about what words are actually used, while Eminem and Marshall lean more to whats being said and the message behind it

part of the shots at elvis isn't to gas himself up to a legend status, it's actually owning the controversy around himself in that people were saying he was only famous for ripping off the style of rap that was most commanded by african american performers, ("20 million other white rappers emerge but not matter how many fish in the see, it'd be so empty without me" + he also mentions/alludes to it again in kamikaze "but if the only reason i blowed up is cause i'm white though, why don't every other white rapper sell what i sell?") BUT he's actually taking whole shots at elvis for directly and intentionally profiting off the theft of a black artists songs and passing them off as his own in his early days, thereby helping to boost his career. theres hella subjective controversy around this and many other artists besides, but it's p much confirmed that elvis did steal 3 songs (written and composed), the performance style and lowkey vibe of a black artist named otis blackwell

Hello from Switzerland! My humble opinion: the basic sample comes from "Malcolm mcLaren - Buffalo Gals ". The days in the 80ies when " Wave" lost its "New", a fresh sound came across Europe, then called " Rap "&the fans " Breakers". Trendsetters like mcLaren ("creator" of Punk-with V.Westwood)&Jazz Icon Herbie Hancock ("Rock It" was revolutionar & a HIT!) absorbed it instantly.

Check out Elvis and the black community, quote's from artist's like Little Richard or Chuck D, stamping Elvis as a man who'd fight for black people. Listen to his back up singer's(all black) comment's about Elvis(he refused to do a huuuuuuge show since they didn't want his black backup singers on stage). Grew up in a black church etc etc, give it a look before you write the entire man off as a racist who didn't do anything for black people. Chuck D had a line on Fight The Power where he said Elvis was a thief, then later retracted his statement due to learning more about him.

He made a valid parallel to the king, he was also hated by the parents of the youth back then, the same youth that is the parents today, repeating the same thing their parents did and they ignored, he is saying don't be surprised your kids are ignoring it too, you did it back then.

My cousin and I listened to his cd, "Eminem Show" beginning to end and on the cd we had he would jokingly say "rub my back, rub my back" . We laughed so hard over it.

Chris Kirkpatrick from NSYNC - Pop, Limp Bizkit - Rap Rock/Nu Metal and Moby - Techno. Those are the three disses. And surprise, surprise: 20 years later and Eminem is still relevant, while the rest have mostly faded into forgotteness.

You gotta understand. Em pays attention to not only the industry, but also the culture at the time of his songs/videos. The big news. So add all of that to the people who tryin’ to diss him? Yo, you have all this bangers. AND to fully understand the song. Although the videos are great. You have to listen to the uncut dirty versions. New fan of your channel btw. Love Eminem reactions. Yours are good. And you pretty good at breaking down bars.

I love love your intelligence and intuition when it comes to em's songs.! 🙂👍🏼👊🏼 Especially cause you were a baby when he first came out legit with the Slim shady LP ('99) and MMLP (2000). So thats why you have some confusion with some of the things hes saying or talking about in his lyrics from back then but they are 1000% relevant to WHEN the specific track came out.. this was em's 2nd album MMLP which ws the highest selling rap album for its first week 1.7 mill physical (actual cd sale) copies the first week.. he was so controversial at this time (2000,2001) cause the music industry hd never, has never, and will never see someone like him except since the beatles and elvis. The FCC tried every way possible to shut him down on any and every platform bck then (the pre-digital era) like MTV, BET, etc..

I think he was 30 when this was released, this was his 4th album and was number one, in many countries. But he was already a platinum selling artist, his previous album "the Marshall Mathers LP" is regarded as one of the best hip hop albums of all times, it sold around 1.3 million copies in its first week, instantly going platinum. That album, plus "The Eminem Show" which came after this and had this song on it, are both now Diamond selling. So at that point in his career, at what some may say was his peak, making that comparison to Elvis was very apt. He also wasn't using the comparison as a Diss to Elvis, or even saying he is better (according to sales he is more successful I think), he was pointing out the similarities, Elvis was very controversial at that time and he was protested against much like Eminem was, although I would argue that Eminem got it a lot worse because his content is controversial, whereas older folks during Elvis' time just didn't like what they deemed to be "sexual" moves, and let's not forget, the white folk really didn't like any form of black music, they basically said Elvis was corrupting young white minds with it. If your going to react to songs and/albums please look up the basics such when it was released, how successful it was and at what stage the artist was in their careers.
