I think she got to everyone. I know what it's like to have a bird needing a vet and there simply isn't one. I've had 2 literally traumatized and killed by local vets that were too arrogant to say it was out of their scope and tell me where there was an avian vet. Both were cockatiels and both special but 1 was my first 'tiel and we had such a special bond

I have a rooster that got into a fight with his brother and got a very nasty wound in his eye just like mumbles. I don’t let my animals fight but it happened so very quickly, in a matter of seconds. I thought his eye was gone. I treated it and then just let it heal. He obviously had very affected vision if not blind in that eye. The skin sloughed off a couple of times over a period of several months. But many months later, six months later at least, It finally healed up and it seems like he can see out of that eye now so don’t give up on her even months and months away. You are doing a really excellent job and we are all pulling for mumbles.

When my duck broke her wing I carefully straightened it out to full extension and ran my hand along her humerous bone, then ulnar and radial bones and then finally her metacarpal bones and made sure they were all aligned. If its obvious which bone is broken ( I suspect its the humerous) then you can just set that bone. If not you may need to set each bone individually. Break a chopstick or dowl to the length of each bone you are setting and secure that with vet wrap around each bone ( you will need to treat the ulna and radius as one bone since they are side by side) Once you get the bones secured with the chopstick and vet wrap then fold her entire wing up against her body as she would do normally and then wrap vet wrap over top of the broken wing around her body and under her other wing to hold the broken wing tightish to her body but allowing the intact wing to be able to move freely. Keeping the other wing unencumbered will help with balance and she will be more tolerant to having the broken wing bound and not try to fight it free as likely. Keep her dry ( not easy for a duck, I know) and isolated from other ducks that can bump her. I put mine in a cage like you have your chicken and chicks so my duck could see and socialize with the other ducks but they couldn't bully her or knock the wrap loose. You will likely need a second pair of hands; one to hold the duck still while you set her wing. You will also want to give her all she can eat oyster shells to help her heal. The vet wrap may need to be reapplied every few days but if you can leave it in place. It will get dirty and so will she but its best if you can not mess with it much to let the bones fuse. Of course if your vet can help they will be your first choice. My vet couldn't see my duck for some time and he told me that my wrap was as good as anything he could have done short of surgery. Once my duck was seen the vet drilled a hole in each end of her humerous and stuck a metal rod in. It protruded from each side and put the duck at risk for infection that the simple wrap didnt but it all worked out fine. My duck lived for a number of years more. She couldn't ever completely extend her wing but was able to flap and swim like a normal duck.

I went through my old books and also asked an old work colleague who’s a veterinarian and sent her some screenshots of mumbles . We both agreed that you should keep up with what you’re doing, cleaning & putting a warm compress on mumbles head & eyes. Unfortunately it’s most likely she’s gonna be blind on that eye but hey it’s better than loosing her right?. There is a disinfectant called JODOPAX ( I think it’s available in the US?) that we used on both birds, mammals and even fish to clean wounds and for me personally it’s the best thing I’ve used over the years. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
@WhittAcresHomestead9 ай бұрын
Thank you for that! I'll keep going until I think she can rejoin the flock. She can manage with one good eye and over time we will see if the other clears up any. But I think she's past the infection and can continue healing

You are doing the right type of treatment by wrapping her wing to her body. Your wrap will stay a little better if you only wrap the injured wing to her body. Letting her healthy wing loose will help her feel a little better too. You should be able to stop any antibiotics for Mumbles. Her skin and eyes look fantastic and infection free. You're doing great with her general treatment too. By stopping the antibiotics and continuing to feed Mumbles a good variety of foods, her gut will start working better. This will help you a lot with getting her healed and back out with the flock!😊🎉

The duck's wing is probably broken, I had a chicken that looked just like that. You really don't need to pay a vet, compared to everything you're doing for Mumbles, this is easy! You just need vet wrap (any color but NOT red). KZbin how to wrap a broken wing...tape down the wing in the "normal" position & wrap around the belly. Leave for a month...re-wrap only if it becomes loose...and she'll be fine ❤ Hope this helps
