I've done the maths: At 9:00 minutes, when you asked the question, you had 3 full stacks of diamonds and 59 in your inventory, along with 11 stacks and 55 of redstone dust. 7 diamonds per half stack of redstone blocks makes 14 diamonds per stack of redstone blocks, makes 14 diamonds per nine stacks of redstone dust. 64 divided by 14 makes 4 and leaves 8. With 4 times 14 diamonds you get 4 stacks of redstone blocks, so 36 stacks of redstone dust, plus the eight left gets you one more half stack of blocks, so a stack of diamonds gets you 40,5 stacks of redstone dust and you have one diamond left. 3 full stacks of diamonds therefore gets you a total of 121,5 stacks of redstone dust, and leaves 3 diamonds. Adding those to your 59 diamonds gives you 62, which gets you another 36 stacks of redstone dust, so the total would be 157,5 stacks of redstone dust, and six diamonds left over. Since you had 11 full stacks of redstone dust in your inventory (ignoring the 55), 157,5 divided by 11 would be around 14 (getting too lazy to figure out what's left here), meaning you had diamonds of a value of around 14 times the amount of redstone you had. You're welcome. And if anyone checks my maths and it's wrong, well, I was too lazy to get the calculator to check it myself, so thank you.
@samforman4658Ай бұрын
Nope you're correct by my math as well.
@ffwng3992Ай бұрын
I pulled out the calculator to answer the question then looked for other people commenting the same thing. I calculated 32 redstone blocks per 7 diamonds times the quotient of 3 stacks plus 59 diamonds to get 1147 blocks of redstone, rounded down because I don't feel like doing fractions. 32/7*(3*64+59)=1147 Mined redstone is (64*11+55)/9 for 84 blocks and some dust left over. 1147/84=13.65, so pretty close to 14 times with various rounding and truncation.

It also shows that even the best redstoners make mistakes and have flops. This episode is the story if turning a mistake around and having a satisfying ending, instead of having to rip it all out and try again. And that is a very important thing to show, because when people are initially learning redstone (or anything really) they will make mistakes and need examples of how that's ok. I have to thank you, Mumbo, for introducing me to "Railstone" (even if it was inadvertently). Seeing your Kelp farm, with "independent harvesting" modules, inspired me to really dig into it, and see what it's capable of. One such use was my own kelp farm (three vertical tiers, and fully expandable horizontally as far as I wish). Another, was a tileable sugar cane farm. I never thought of using Observers with Powered Rails before now, and honestly, their applications are limitless. Not just for tileable modules, but you can make fully functioning Redstone underwater, replacing dust and repeaters with rails, Observers, and blocks to transmit power. Also, I ran into the same problem, with water streams, but thankfully solved it after some "magic" with signs. I had remembered this video, and the followup, and immediately remembered your fix. Thanks again. I'm fairly chuffed!

I freaking feel that conceptually broken farm PAIN. My Bedrock Nether gold farm that doesn’t work because portal farms cause a memory leak, I can’t build on the Nether roof, and all my terraforming and spawn proofing STILL did not adequately increase the rates, and I have no hope of checking the spawn radius accurately because of Bedrock’s lack of mod support!! GAH!
@ShiroiKibaАй бұрын
Pardon me for not understanding (since I am but a PS4 plebian), but what is a memory leak? I followed SilentWisperer's fairly recent Portal Ticking Gold Farm tutorial, and it has been working great for me (initially, I used the Dispenser/Flint&Steel method for lighting the portals, but I switched to fire ticks with Lava; I can't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure fire ticks go East or West, don't quote me on that, though lol) Of course, I had to make some adjustments to scale it up for more portals (and use a variation of the killing chamber used for his most recent Creeper Farm) As far as the spawn proofing goes: have you tried using local Mob Switches to limit the chunks in which mobs can spawn? This isn't strictly meant to be a Silent Wisperer plug, but he has a solid recent tutorial on Mob Switches (utilizing Oozing Potions and Armor Stands). That way, you don't have to worry too much about spawn-proofing EVERYTHING; you can just focus on getting the Y-levels spawn-proofed within your preferred chunks Maybe you knew all of that stuff already, but I hope that some of it can help! :)
@stealthlock6634Ай бұрын
@@ShiroiKiba Thanks for the advice, I’ll look into the Oozing spawnproofing thing. Since it’s a new mechanic I haven’t gotten to look into that yet, so that sounds super promising! As for memory leaks, that’s a programming term that I don’t fully understand, but apparently the area around your portal ticking farm will slowly get laggier and laggier over the course of weeks and months for every time the portals get turned on and off. I read this in a Reddit post, and maybe this phenomenon has since been patched, but after I’d heard about it I avoided portal ticking farms at all costs.

For mining with a beacon, it's fastest to mine back and forth in 2x1 tunnels across the beacon's area, each separated by 2 blocks. That ensures every block on those 2 y levels is shown, and if you line it up right you only need to go straight forward and hold down mine to mine continuously, cutting down on time spent swinging your pickaxe around without mining anything

I did the math. If Mumbo were to sell all of his diamonds mined from the session for 32 blocks at 7 each, we find that each is 4.5 stacks per purchase. Mumbo had 251 diamonds, divided by 7, we get 35 purchases, multiplied by the stacks of redstone given per purchase, which is 157.5 stacks, being 10080 redstone dust from Tango. By taking the difference between redstone of Tangos's shop and the redstone he mined over the redstone he mined, times 100, we get 1228.06% more redstone than he actually mined 😭 Edit: percent calculation

I actually had built a very similar vertical kelp farm during a season of a SMP I play with some friends to power a small supersmelter! I ended up combating the kelp getting stuck by actually only having the kelp on source blocks, then 1 block out, the water curved down, where it would then feed into hoppers. This may help when you build the smelter by the way: the system worked by smelting down all of the kelp, then using a crafter to make dried kelp blocks, after which, half of it would go back to powering the furnace that burns the kelp, the other half would go to the smelter. Only thing was, you had to jumpstart the kelp furnace with about a stack of coal.

Mumbo, you collected 251 diamonds(not counting the normal ore) and 694 redstone dust. That means, via Tango’s shop, you could purchase 10,080 redstone dust. 8:50 I like math. I'll try your challenge. 32 redstone blocks is 288 redstone dust. If you divide the 288 redstone dust by the 7 diamonds, that's 41.143 redstone dust per diamond. You have 3 stacks and 59 diamonds in your inventory, so 64 times 3 plus 59 is 251 diamonds overall from that mining session. 251 diamonds times tangos rate of 41.143 redstone dust per diamond equals 10,326.857 redstone dust or just over 161 stacks of redstone dust which is definitely more than you got from your mining session. In other words that would be 1,147.429 redstone blocks or 17.929 stacks of redstone blocks.

For anyone wondering, mumbo could get a total of 10080 redstone dust via the diamonds he mined, which is 9321 more than he got by mining manually: (64x3+59)÷7= 35 (rounded down since purchases can only be an integer value of diamonds) 32x35x9=10080 (total redstone dust from purchases), 11x64+55=759 (total redstone dust from mining) 10080-759=9321 (the difference between the two)
@Thunderfoot-fi7bdАй бұрын
If I did my math right, 7 diamonds per 32 blocks means you mined ~18 diamonds worth of red stone, and ~1,147 red stone blocks worth of diamonds
@Thunderfoot-fi7bdАй бұрын
Oh, this also means you mined ~1,062 more redstone blocks worth of diamonds than you did actual redstone blocks

Seeing your problem solving process is pretty inspiring, sharing the failures you experience, while not particularly flattering, gives your viewers a look into the actual process and gives us a better connection to you as a human rather than a Minecraft character. Even if there isn’t an elegant solution to your problem, there’s usually something we can all learn from it. Keep up the great work!

I am FASCINATED by the redstone experiment not just because it’s fun, but also because I’m intrigued. The real currency of Hermitcraft is time. Diamonds and mining them serves as a stand-in currency, for a while. But the usefulness of the Shopping District decreases for the bits that end up being easier to gather oneself. The BEST way to gather redstone is almost certainly buying it, provided a steady supply of diamonds. Or just strip mining diamonds exclusively for the same 1.5 hours (with some redstone gathered as a by-product as well).
