He has a pickup i hope im answering ur question right but u can get a banjo head that has a pickup in it like HBD does or u can buy a pickup and install it thats what i have for mine i have a Gold Tone Ob-250 same one as Winston Marshall used to use and i believe this is a deering Eagle 2. But i do recommend a banjo head pickup so u dont have to worry about drilling holes and u dont have to worry about hitting that perfect spot
